Re: Cat Litter and Litter Trays

Okay...

Well I use silicate litter and I have open curved rimmed litter trays.

I have one large one in my bathroom, and a second one in downstairs in my hallway.

Using these trays I have one 11 week old kitten (who is inside all the time) so always uses them.
I have a 8 month old female who is inside most of the day, but does go out when we are home from work until we call them in for bed. So she will go to the loo outside sometimes.
I also have 2 8 month old boys that have acess to the outside from when we get up in the morning till when we call them in at night and go to the loo outside most of the time.
The litter trays do get used a bit more at night.

I scoop first the in the morning when I get up and whenever I see a poo to scoop. The litter tray gets completely cleaned out at least once a week.

The one downstairs is only really their for the little kitten at the moment, the others tend to use the one in the bathroom.

Re: Cat Litter and Litter Trays

We use an enclosed litter with a flap.

It is amazing! There is no smell, or mess, plus the cats like their privacy!

Hi Fluffypurrs!

We buy Cat's Best Okoplus which is an organic fibre based clumping litter, and its definitely the best litter we have used by far. We get it from Pets at Home.

Our Cats have a hooded litter tray with a flap.

We have one tray for our two cats.

We use a textured mat to try and stop litter tracking but I still have to sweep up the dregs every morning!

I fully empty & clean the litter tray once a week using warm soapy water and the poop is scooped every day!

Re: Cat Litter and Litter Trays

Hello (bored too)
I use clumping litter from the orange supermarket, cheap and works fine.
I've got one hooded tray with flap door and air filter (not sure if that makes a difference), the tray's also got an in-built storage pocket for the scoop. my cat is happy to use the flap fortunately.
For one indoor cat one tray, it's in the guest-room unless we have guests then we put it in the window alcove in our bedroom.
I don't have a mat, we have wooden floors all over so vacuuming and quick brush now and then works well.
I clean the tray twice a day, and empty and clean it completely once a week, with hot water and a little bit of washing up liquid.

Re: Cat Litter and Litter Trays

1. What Cat Litter do you buy and where do you get it from?
Chick Crumbs from the local farm

2. What Litter Trays do you use? Open/Hooded/High sides etc?
We use hooded ones

3. How many Trays do you have and where are they placed? How many cats are these trays for?
We have 1 in the kitten/playroom, 1 at the top of the stairs, 1 in the hallway, 1 in the dinning room, 2 in the utility/playroom and 1 in the run.
We have 6 adult cats & 2 kittens.

4. Do you use mats to stop litter tracking and does it work?
Yep we do and yes they make a huge difference

5. How often do you fully clean your trays and what do you use?
Once a week and usually soapy water or if they are too bad, bleach in the water and left to soak for a bit.

6. and how often do you scoop the poop per day?
Twice a day, plus I antibac wipe around them

Re: Cat Litter and Litter Trays

1. What Cat Litter do you buy and where do you get it from?
Tesco premium. Have tried expensive ones, but they were useless. My mum likes ones that don't give off loads of powder in the air!

2. What Litter Trays do you use? Open/Hooded/High sides etc?
Just the biggest one we can find! Open ones. We have managed to find the biggest one ever, but it's still a bit too small for them lol

3. How many Trays do you have and where are they placed? How many cats are these trays for?
One tray, but we are trying the 2 at the moment. In the hallway, next to the back door. For 2 cats.

4. Do you use mats to stop litter tracking and does it work?
Have done, but don't work lol. Bailey makes a right mess everytime. Constantly hoovering the spilt litter up.

5. How often do you fully clean your trays and what do you use?
Clean about once or twice a week. With bleach and boiling hot water, left to soak for a while

6. and how often do you scoop the poop per day?
Scoop up every single poop as soon as it's been done. Which is normally about 2 poos each per day. We never leave the poo to sit. As soon as they have finished their dump, it's scooped up and straight down the loo, otherwise it would just stink the house out and the litter tray would get too messy.
