Any 1 have a main coon kitten for sale in north east ?

We Have a fantastic Main Coon male and we just love his attitude. WE are looking to add another male to our family but I think it's cruel to travel long distance with a kitten. Can any 1 Help with a breeder in county Durham area ?

As an owner of Maine Coons I love 'em too

Look here for kittens under the GCCF affiliated MC Clubs - its organised by area

Home Page

and here:

Mainpage

Look under kittens.

Tica is here:

CoonTICA.org.uk - Maine Coon Cat Club in the UK affiliated with TICA

You could also try a google search

I know of 2 up here, but i'm afaraid I would'nt recommend either, not from what i've seen or heard, it's shocking what some people get away with. Sadly people buy them....why ? ......because they feel sorry for them

Yes, I was talking to a colleague who has 2 Bengals and a Norwegian Forest.

She bought her first bengal from what was obviously a kitten farm. Queen and kittens outside in cages. She bought it because she couldn't leave it there

Her wedgie and other bengal came from a reputable breeder who socialised the kittens in her own home with all the noises, dogs and children and queen free to come in etc. She said there was a big difference....

Re: Any 1 have a main coon kitten for sale in north east ?

This is the thing Jane. A friend of mine visited one. Every kitten litter was in a cage, wether there were 2 in the litter or 7!!! The woman was quite happy to tell her she took the mother away when they were a coupke of weeks old and handreared them all herself, the kittens stayed in the cages til they went to their new homes!!!! Tghe adults were all penned outside. I think she said there was 30 to 40 cats I told her to report her to the cat club as that was disgusting, she would'nt, so I bloody did!! Don't think anything was done though
The other the woman has so many health problems she can hardly walk, or care for herself, never mind the cats. The place is like something you see on that Animal cops programme in America!! Yet nobody in this country wants to know

That's unbelievable, no-one can be bothered. Cats don't seem to have any priority in this country.

General attitude seems to be "its only a cat". I hope I'm wrong and someone will tell me that was the attitude years ago but not anymore.

Sue

NB I hope you find the kitten of your dream, keep searching and you will.

The links to the clubs that Janee has posted are a good bet for finding a breeder.

You might also want to consider the possibility (when contacting them) of rehoming an older kitten/cat. It might just be my area, but there are quite a few older MC's out there looking for new homes.

lol

That is exactly what I did! We both work, so in my opinion with my circumstances didn't want to buy a 13 week old kitten. I deliberately looked for older adoptees.

Some of the breeders do rehome queens or studs that for whatever reason they want to retire. There have been other threads about the whys and wherefores of this, but in my opinion its fine. Most breeders will not release a cat they have bred from unless it is to the right person and the right environment. The breeder will neuter the cat before letting it go, as well.

Look on the webpages of breeders to find older cats.

From reading the information available on the internet about rehoming Coonies it comes across that they are few and far between, but it really isn't the case.

Ace is a kitten that we rehomed, and he's only six months old so he's still very much a baby. In addition to the retired queens/studs there are older kittens/young cats that are rehomed for a variety of reasons having been neutered instead of being used for breeding/showing.
