Free pets rant

This ad was spotted on Gumtree obviously posted by someone cheesed off by the amount of people advertising for free animals on there.

"Will the people asking for free pets trot off!

If you can't afford to buy a pet then you can't afford the vet bills, the insurance, the food, the accomodation and everything else that goes with looking after a pet!

Rescue centres ALWAYS ask for a donation! Probably why you chose to beg on gumtree instead!

Also dont put how upset your kids are , and that you need a free dog to help them! Go to a rescue centre, pay a donation and get a dog/cat/rodent that way!

If you are advertising your pet as free you are mad, pets aren't there to make money out of BUT the people that take your pets will either breed off them or sell them on again!

Even asking for a small amount of money puts the wrong type of people off, always vet the homes you are giving your pets to and make sure they are spayed or neutered! Or ask for a donation to a rescue centre as part of the rehoming agreement.

Thanks for all you who replied someone had to say it! .

All these people advertising for a free puppy go to a friggin rescue centre ! Maybe you dont rehome from them as you are TOO CHEAP to help pay a donation. My god HAVE SOME DIGNITY

Yours Faithfully

The Animal Crusader"

Re: Free pets rant

Got to admit I never looked at it that way. I never paid for any of my previous dogs or cats. I class myself as a responsible pet owner and I was shocked that I had to buy a moggie, I paid £35 for him the owner/breeder couldn't find a home for one of the kittens so I took him too for £10. I'd never heard of it before.

It had nothing to do with a bank balance it was more to do with people needing homes for the kittens/puppies, there was always someone in the street with a litter. The situation years ago was so bad many were culled.

Things have changed even moggies aren't that easy to find anymore, what I mean is no-one in our street has had a litter of kittens this year, and I can't remember the last time, its was so long ago.

Re: Free pets rant

That's a totally different thing though.
You were offered your cats/dogs by the breeders and you gave them a loving home in return.

We are on about those people that are looking for a pet that has to be free and ALSO has to be pedigree in most cases.
Ive even spotted one not long ago where the poster had the nerve to ask for a puppy for free and under no circumstances to bother contacting him if any money was required for the pup. This person also wrote out a list of the type of puppies he wanted in order, Bulldog, Chihuahua, Shih Tsu etc.

Got to admit he has impeccable taste in dogs as are these not the breeds that are popular and very expensive to buy from a breeder??£*

You are referring to people who don't want the pets for themselves merely to make a bob or two, when selling them on or breeding them.

I wouldn't dream of expecting a pedigree pup/kitten with papers free and today I wouldn't expect a mixed breed free and I certainly wouldn't place an ad looking/begging for a free pet either.

Why are these people allowed to place an advert, surely magazines and papers have a responsibility too.
