can someone advise please
Our 12 week old kitten Samba is afraid of the front door, is this normal?
I will tell the complete story so far which may help. Samba was found on the busy road we live in running in and out of the cars, which is heavy and fast moving, we searched high and low for his owner to no avail. He has been with us just four days now. On day one we phoned the local vets to find an owner and thought great when we were told a kitten of his description was lost, so we took him to the vet to hand him over, on the way out of our Front door he dug in his claws and started crying and shaking, he was fine by the time we got to car. Samba is very curious, friendly, affectionate and extremely active, and showed this in the car, at the vet and at home. We arrived at the vets, again walking through the front door of the vets he dug in his claws and started crying and shaking, but was fine after a few minutes inside the vets. We found out the lost kitten had been found so we said we will give Samba a home rather than him going to a shelter, we returned home and again we had the problem with the door. I thought it was odd he is not afraid of strangers, the road, the cars nor the car doors, just front doors. On our return home I took him to our back door and out into the garden there were no problems there which confuses me....why the front door? We went out yesterday to get Samba food and a few bits like a bed and litter tray, he went mad crying and running back and forth and trying to cling to me when we went out the front door, when we came back in again he went mad then leapt into my arms shaking, even when the postman delivers the mail in the morning he starts crying shaking and jumps into my arms. Oh he loves watching the fish and our bird George, he is very curious about Georges cage and George but got a bit too close at one point as George does not seem to like Samba too much, I should add he seems fearful of the cage door too although nowhere near as much as our front door. He has no fear of our children even with the rough and tumble, he loves to play with their toys as well his own, and will join in when they are playing in the front room. I apologise for this being a bit all over the place but I have just locked our front door and Samba is again crying. Is this normal or can anyone suggest a reason why and how we can help him please, after his ordeal when he was found I do not wish to see him suffer this way with the front door, any help at all will be much appreciated. |

Re: can someone advise please
bless you for taking in this poor kitten.
As said above this kitten has probably been kicked out of someones door and remembers it.. He has probably also been left on his own alot and that is why he hates you leaving him, kittens need company. Have you thought of maybe getting another kitten as a playmate? would be great company for him when you're out and I bet he would thrive off having another brother/sister to play with ![]() |

Re: can someone advise please
lol yes we have thought about getting another kitty, but we have to wait two weeks according to the vet, then we will get him all sorted chipped, vaccinated and general health checked etc, although we are treating him for the fleas and de-worming now. We have to wait the two weeks in case he is claimed so our poor bird is not allowed out of his cage so he doesn't become too familiar yet, although our children will be heartbroken if he goes they have got very attached because our last cat was catnapped and never found and so far all our pets have been rescued pets so some do stay and some we have located their owners, it would be lovely to get a pet that has not just been abandoned.
For today we had someone stay in all day which seemed to go ok as far as one or two of us going out was concerned, and we sat with him for a bit in the hallway near the front door as they came and went, hopefully in time he will feel more confident I just feel so bad for him when he gets upset. I would love to show some of the pics we have Samba is such an inquisitive little kitty and is continuously trying to get into the birds cage or jump up to the fish tank, not sure if he is thinking play or food though ![]() |
