Question Need some advice please

I live in an apartment, recently someone nearby moved out, abandoning two cats, one of them is very shy, tan/orange colored, the other is a mix of black/light brown/white. The tan one was adopted by someone.. and the other one seems to have found his way to me, I opened up my storage area so he can go in and out of it freely, as shelter until I can figure out what to do. When I go outside he meows excitedly and rubs his head on me, I've gained his trust by sitting outside when I get home and petting him, he lets me pick him up. The only problem that's preventing me from fully adopting him and letting him inside my home is the fact that one time when I was petting him, a flea jumped from him onto my arm, I quickly killed it.. That was the only encounter I've had with bugs on him, but I still feel as though I'd need to take him to the vet. I would need to put him inside a cage to bring him to the vet and im afraid that if I do that he won't trust me anymore.. What should I do? I don't want a flea infestation in my house.. but I want to adopt the cat. any suggestions? Thanks, any responses will be strongly appreciated.

Re: Need some advice please

I'd pop the cat in a carrier and take it to a vet. my ex-feral girl soon forgave me. Some simple spot on treatment will soon sort any fleas out.

If 3 colours then tis probably a girl... if splodges then is tortie of some kind or do you mean light brown with black stripes/spots/ripples on it with white patches?

I'd get a spot on such as advocate or stronghold as these kill of a variety of parasites inc fleas, tics, ear mites etc. There is also a spot on wormer called profender that might be worth using as well.

I'm sure that in providing this poor cat with a loving home he will soon forget the cage ordeal ( incidentally my two cat boxes are kept in the hall and Marley often chooses to sleep in one of them of his own free will!)

Very pretty tortie or sometimes called Calico cat. Most likely to be a girl. If she will let you, pop her into a carrier and take her to the vets to clear up any fleas and worms and also to see if she has been spayed. As katie200 says you may have to lure her into the carrier with some food but I'm sure she will forgive you. As soon as I get my carrier out my Siamese is in it
