Mum and kittens

Hi wondering if anyone can give me some advice about my cat and her 3 kittens. We were adopted by our cat,we live in Greece and as everyone probably knows there are alot of stray cats here,She found us liked what she saw and the rest is history. We thought that she was about 4 months old as she is quite a small cat,but was obviously older as was pregnant. She had 3 beautiful kittens 3 weeks ago a visit to the vets was needed as she was struggling ,I will add that while she was under we had her sterilised.Everything has been going really well and she settled to motherhood really well, but the last day or so she has started to (the only way I can describe it is) play really roughly with them. It seems to start whilst she is cleaning them she gets sort of over excited and bites their necks her back legs start, they dont cry out so i dont think she is really being hard but would just like to know if this is normal. thanks

Re: Mum and kittens

Dont worry about that, mum looks like she is being rough, but she wont hurt them, i have one who make her babies cry some times, but the kittens go back for more, it is a normal part of them growing up,

I couldn't really give you an answer from expierience, seeing as I've never had a litter of kittens with a mom, but it sounds okay..

I don't know really, I'm sure someone on this forum will be able to help you better than I can.

Hello and welcome, I have two kits from different mothers and both play with their kits the same as yours are doing. Mum, in reality is washing the kits, teaching them and keeping them in check, and yes they do rebel and look like they are fighting, but believe me mum knows best and she is not fighting with them just educating them

Got to ask is it really hot where you live in Greece and do the cats tolerate the heat ok? Would longhaired cats be able to tolerate a warm country like Greece?????

Re: Mum and kittens

Ty
Thank very much for your reply am so glad this is classed as normal behavior as she is doing really well .Its just a real shame that there are so many strays here, also the vet bills are half of what they are in the Uk and we have been very lucky to find a good one.
We moved out here last October so this is our first summer living here but brought out with us our 2 cats from the Uk, 1 is a long haired male tabby and he is a large cat,he copes very well in the heat doing nothing during the day sleeping in the shade ( has taken to the siesta very easily!) he really is a layed back cat ,and our female lazes about in the shade until tea time then she appears eats and then is off again.Has been extremely hot over the last few days which I should imagine will continue through August ,we have had no rain since first week of May so very dry indeed, never thought I would say it but looking forward to some!.
