uh-oh! the 2 kitties have ticks...

Vet nurse told me the 2 strays had a couple of ticks on their ears on Saturday and immediately sprayed them with Frontline. I checked 24 hours later and couldnt see them so assumed that the what I was told was correct. However, this evening was holding kitten when I noticed what looked like an extra flap of skin in one of the kitties ears but then it seemed to move ...... I was like freaked out and my husband took a look then grabbed it and we could see it had really imbedded itself in the kittens ear and was kind of large and white and had legs and was nasty but we got the whole thing out including the head. Got rid of it out it went....since then took flea comb to the kittens and gently put it through them and about 15 mini brown/orange things fell out. They were also on floor around the crate they have been sleeping in. Well freaked out !!! husband got dyson suck them up off carpet and emptied the vacuum after. I am not sure of what to do now? Will get Frontline....but worried!! Anyone else experienced anything like this???eek:

Bugs of any description freak me out - and any sign I am opening the cupboard and getting henry out. Our furry pets will bring in some of the pesky little things. But once you get into a regime you will soon be on top of things. Get a good spot on preventative treatment and vacuum fregularly.

You will prob need to de-flea the house and the rest of your cats now hun! Flea eggs can lie dormant in the soft furnishings of your house!

Pets at Home do a cat shampoo which is good if you're going to bathe the kitties, which is what I would do.

Re: uh-oh! the 2 kitties have ticks...

Hi guys, unfortunately, they are not fleas (wish that was all.....) they are ticks and if they bite they carry horrendous diseases (some even carry Lymes Disease...which can occassionally be fatal to cats and humans...although rare)....thing is you dont know do you? Have been scanning our bodies (like mad hatters) for bites I have some bites but from being in garden (midges) but am itching all over now. Luckily they have been in separate room and have had no contact with my other cats whatsoever. Dont understand why the Frontline didnt kill them ticks....

Get some stronghold from the vets Tinks, kills all sorts of nasties............fleas, ticks worms, earmites, you name it. You should also get a spray from the vets, Staykill if they still do it, its for your home and you just squirt it all round the skirting boards.
