Cool Cat Rooms & Homemade Toys

Hi All

Just wondered how everyone else housed their pets..where they sleep etc.

I've just had an extension put on the side of my house comes straight of the kitchen has 3 windows...one also looks into the living room and I am just in the middle of decorating it.

I have put my pedigree papers in frames on the wall and Ive ordered cat shelving for them to climb aswel as new scratchers and beds etc.

So basically they have their own room full of toys and beds etc.

They are by no way only going to be in there...they are my babies and have full run of the house this is just where they sleep but thought I'd make them a playroom out of it also.

Has anyone done anything similar? And any tips on homemade toys maybe ones I can attach to the walls etc...really want to jazz the room up and make it a crazy cat room with a personal touch. Ive already made dangly balls (ahem) and they look really good. And I think Im going to get a large rectangle mirror..attach it to the bottom of the wall and tile around it for decoration (one of the cats loves playing with the other cat she sees in the mirror hehe)...I also thought about a small indoor pond with a water feature (just a tiny one)...Anyone else have any ideas?

Re: Cat Rooms & Homemade Toys

My 2 cats have whole run of the house (apart from my brothers bedroom, unless they are being supervised... they tend to go crazy and ruin everything in there lol). Their bedroom is my bedroom, so at night they come in there when I go to bed. Then are let out to roam the house first thing in the morning.

Re: Cat Rooms & Homemade Toys

wow your cats are lucky having their own part of the house!

Unfortunately with me living in a flat I cant do any thing like that! They have a climbing frame in the living area and in my bedroom and tonnes of toys.

My 2 tend to sleep in my room, on my bed or sometimes in the bed (often not allowed though due to Lola's obsession with biting my OH's bum!)

When we buy a house next year we will have a nice outdoor run built for them and hopefully a cat room!

Hi Tracey

What a wonderful idea you have - your cats are soooooooo lucky!!

I have a homemade toy which i saw in my cat magazine - i have already posted it on here before but here goes..............

Get a cardboard box (any size u want) and cut holes in the sides of it (some round, some square, some triangle etc) and put toys inside the boxes. The cats love them!! My cats even get IN the box while sticking her paws through and playing with the cats on the outside of the box!
Plus once they have chewed and scratched it you can make another!

**Tip - to cut the holes in the box use a sharp jagged edged knife as scissors are harder to use for this task**

Hey Hun

That's a thought actually....You & OH fancy arranging a visit to my new house??

When the cat room is finished I will post lots of piccies. Ive just ordered some a new cat sofa a new scratcher(big one).

Also can I ask something....The floor....I was going to put lino down but if anyone has any accidents it will get trapped underneath so I was thinking of getting some heavy duty floor paint?? And then just putting a big shaggy rug down?? Does that sound ok?? Floor is just cement so I think would be ok to paint it??

The dangly balls are really good you know...I had beaded curtain tie backs from next and I had some of them stick type balls that you put in dishes for decoration...attached the ball and the beaded tie back and then put a hook in the wall! Cats jumping up at it batting it and the beads make a noise hehe..I'm thinking about elasticated ones next so they will jump up to them but they'll spring straight back up. My minds still ticking Im thinking about ''attempting'' to make my own wall hammock next...we'll see...never really been one for sewing...more of a hammer and nail person haha.xx
