Unhappy Tabitha looks really thin

Tabitha's fur babies will be four weeks on Saturday. They are still in their nest, and are mostly not interested in any food I offer them, although one did lap a small amount of baby rice off a spoon yesterday when I put it up to her mouth. She wouldn't take it off my finger.

Tabitha is looking incredibly thin. She will be a year old on Saturday and has always been a small cat anyway.

I'm popping into my vet tomorrow to pick up some wormer for the kittens and will have a word with the nurse there but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I could feed Tabitha to build her up a bit or if there are any supplements I could give her?

I couldn't find Nature's Menu kitten food so bought some HiLife Kitten Junior pouches today. They have 60% meat in. I am also giving her kitten milk and kitten crunchies. A good friend cooked some liver/kidney this evening and is bringing it over tomorrow morning for Tabitha and I am hoping she will eat that. I've given her some cooked chicken and she ate some of that. She is eating, but not a lot. She doesn't seem ill but wants to be with me continuously when I am home. She purrs when I talk to her or cuddle her and seems her usual self apart from being so thin - I can feel her bones when I pick her up.

Also, should I be encouraging the kittens to come out of the nest or is it best to just leave them to explore in their own time?

Lumpy

Ahhh, blesss her. It's takes so much out of them having kittens does'nt it. As suggested, raw lamb mince. Beef mince is good, Natures menu adult(I can't get the kitten one for the life of me either)

May I can't get a response re that bloom powder for you either....wondering wether she's gone away it's very odd as i've never had a problem before, I hav'nt forgot you though

Re: Tabitha looks really thin

Thanks lots for that. Will get some mince. Can I just check it is OK raw as the vet told me to cook the liver and kidney and not give it to her raw. Good point about the wormer as well. I'll pick up some for her tomorrow when I get the stuff they have put aside for me for the little ones. Will get some A/D too (what does it stand for, if anything?)

I probably sound neurotic but I hate seeing her so thin - I was almost in tears earlier when I picked her up and she purred and snuggled into me. She is being such a good Mum I think the kittens are just draining her.

Thank you all for your help.

Lumpy

Re: Tabitha looks really thin

feeding a good quality kitten food can help, also royal canin do a baby milk, this is good for building up mums.most vets stock a milk alterative for kitts and mums, cimicats one,but this upsets some of mine.

Hello Lumpy - I think clare may have been referring to something like Cimicat (is that correct Clare?) or were you referring to the special convalescence food that vets sell for nursing mums and cats who are recouperating?

Will have a look on the net at lunchtime and see if I can find the stuff they gave me a year ago when I had a similar issue with Suki-wook.

Sending best purrs to you and Tabitha.

Re: Tabitha looks really thin

I have been giving Zelda some of May's kitten mix of Evap Milk, egg yolk, honey etc and she's picked up substantially.
