Re: do i need to seperate?
You will have to play it by ear. See if Mum wants him around. Some of them in labour prefer to have a feline friend there for comfort some of them don't.
That said he may not want to stay around. They love a nice warm cosey birthing box until the action starts and then they high tail it out of there. I have never known a neuter attack kittens, the most I've seen is they are scared of them and spit and run away - which can set Mums hackles rising if she is the over protective type. What ever makes Mum happy, as long as your boy is happy to play along. I wouldn't forceably separate them if they want to be together.

Just a quick thought, does he go outside?

Re: do i need to seperate?
My persian neuter was brilliant when my girl had kittens years ago. He was there during the birth helping to clean them up, and when mum went off to feed etc he was right there. The kittens loved snuggling into him.
I suppose it depends really, see what happens.

Re: do i need to seperate?
No there both house cats, i would let him out but i think he would get himself in alot of trouble, he doesn't seem to be scared of anything
. They've both been sleeping together in her box, so was just abit worried he would get in the way aswell. I got a feeling she's going to be very protective, so if he does get in the way im hopeing she'll let him know about it, nicely![]() |

Re: do i need to seperate?
I remember as a child our cat had kittens and her neutered brother just loved them so much,to the point i had to keep getting him out of the box so she could feed them.
I swear he thought he was their mother. |

Re: do i need to seperate?
my male was very curious, but when they squeeked at him he would do a runner lol. then he got braver and would 'babysit' them whilst mum went off to the loo etc.
they both used to carry them round the house, and the male taught them how to play...it was really sweet ![]() when she was in labour he was watching and she hissed at him, i took him away then because it was obvious she wasnt comfortable. but once she had given birth and had settled, he went back in. |
