Re: Any new info i should know about breeding & which breed?

Wow, thanks every one my head is now buzzing with all your wonderful suggestions, .
I am the sort of person that has to fall in love with something before I buy it, if you can understand what I'm trying to say, I really like to feel something and fall in love with it, and then that's where my passion comes from to strive to breed the best possible, so I'm trying to find a breed that does that to me.

At the moment the Toygar is very high on my list, but I need to get my head around how they have come to be, are they just a poorly bred bengals (don't mean that in a bad way) with joined spots or are they crossed with another cat, the only bit of info I can find on that is Bengal cross with a domestic tabby??? I'm going to e-mail some (only three) of the UK breeders tomorrow to first get some more back ground and also if I could afford to go down this path, as I remembered when the Bengals first started, they were bumming expensive to buy on the Active, so I have to consider that, I mean this could cost me thousands, one site said that a Toygar on the active would cost £2500

On the safer options, I used to have a foreign white Oriental girl, many moons ago that sadly could never have babies but she did reach champion and was a wonderful girl, sadly we lost her at a young age to cancer, she was the only one we ever had but left a lasting impression, so I was also thinking Orientals or the longhair Oriental.

I will be looking into the suggested other breeds, but hope I wont offend when I say that it wont be the SK, a beautiful cat but not for me.

Re: Any new info i should know about breeding & which breed?

Toygers just look like mackerel tabby bengals to me but then I know nothing about them. Their coats are very striking though, especially in the kitten when the pattern is clear.

Orientals are a fabulous breed but not too much to develop. Good patterned tabbies and silvers seem to be few and far between. Bi colours are fairly new but make ch status under the GCCF in June this year so are fairly established. Pure cinny and fawn lines are few and far between. Longhairs again are around but in the minority, but then that side of it seems to be dominated by a few prefixes so maybe thats deliberate - who knows. I know bi colour longhairs exist, but never seen one at a GCCF show.

There's plenty out there to choose from.

Re: Any new info i should know about breeding & which breed?

I must agree with you about the toygar, the more I look into them the more I'm put off.

I do love the Orientals so this may well be a route that I go down as there doesn't seem to be that many kittens around, I know its the wrong time of year for there to be an abundance of kittens about, but looking at the adds just gives me an idea on that side of things.

Also because of the first love for the Toygar it got me looking into the Silver and Snow Bengals, so I have narrowed it down to Bengal v Oriental

Loads more research to do on both breeds, and I need to look into the colors, could I just ask you though Saikou, (hope you don't mind) How would you get the Fawn in the Oriental, I know you said that dilute of cinnamon is fawn, so if I had a cinnamon girl what would I put her to to get the fawn??

These dilute are all new to me and i need to learn all about how they work, sorry about my ingnorance.

If you have a cinny girl, she would also need to carry the dilute gene then mated to a either a cinny boy or a cinny carrying boy who also carries dilute - or a fawn boy, if you can find one. If both carry siamese even better as well as there are very few cinny siamese around. The cinny gene pool in general is very small.

Re: Any new info i should know about breeding & which breed?

The Toyger started in the 1980's by Judy Sudgen, she had stated the breed was developed to increase peoples awareness of the real big cat tiger plight.

She was looking to claify the Mackeral tabby pattern and 'create' one to have tiger like stripes, she actually imported a Tabby tom with distinctive head markings from India the Bengal came in at a later date........to get a bigger bodied cat.

In 2010 breeders are hoping to gain a wider nose bridge, rounder ears, and whiter chest area, stomach and cheek puffs.

Judy is Jean Mill's daughter! I met Jean Mill and she is a lovely lady.

If you like Foreign Whites, why not look again at Khao Manees? they are a white foreign-typed breed, very ancient, and I had the privilege of helping to bring them to the attention of breeders here, some years ago. If I had the space & time & resources to take on a new breed, they would be my first choice.

Re: Any new info i should know about breeding & which breed?

Morning.

Me and my husband have decided that we are going to go down the fawn and cinnamon Oriental route, as i just love the Orientals.

But as well we are very interested in the Khao Manee (thanks for making me aware of this stunning cat). I have contacted a couple of the breeder. My Uncle lives in Thailand and often comes over for visits, twice a year, so wether that would help or not i don't know. I need to find out whats involved in importing and the cost, i shouldn't imagin that the cats themselves cost very much as nothing does in Thailand, but i have no idea of how to even start the process of importing.

Has any one on here ever imported a cat?? I know that they would probably have to have a 6 months quarenteen as i don't think that Thailand comes under one of the countrys involved in the Pet travel scheme.
