Edith's Mum is on a distinguished road
London Cat wants a boyfriend.

My little cat Edith is just peeerfect, and I adore her so much I really want her to have a litter. She is a British Domestic Shorthair, with the most wonderful character, and I think she would really love to become a mother. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to find her a boyfriend in London, particularly as I am not interested in any type of pedigree breading. Any help would be wonderful.

Re: London Cat wants a boyfriend.

I have a few questions...

How old is she?
Has she called yet?
Does she have free access to the outdoors because if she does any old Tom will mate her soon.
Do you know that non-pedigree breeding is something that is not usually advised or planned?
What are you planning to do with the kittens considering 2-6 is the average and she could have more?
Kittens are quite a big commitment for you aswell as her - have you thought this through?

Good questions Em
To be honest unless you find someone who is not a registered breeder you've not got much chance in finding a boy.
I've recently been asked if i'd sell a boy for stud to someone who decided spur of the moment to breed from their girl because they thought it was cruel to spey her. They knew nothing about breeding or the breed they'd bought, they were'nt registered either. I said you've got more chance of flying to the moon than me selling you anything. He said that we breeders were all stuck up and why nobody would sell him anythingconfused: He said he'd been given my number by a breeder friend of mine. I've never met the woman in my life!!

How can people say that? If breeders let their cats mate with non ped un registered cats there would end up being more and more kittens in shelters

I hope iam not being too blunt, but there are thousands of kittens born every year pedigree or not that end up in shelters. Could you be sure that these kittens would have a home for the rest of their lives!
Kittens are alot of hard work, for you and your cat, cost alot of money to raise (food ,vet bills, etc), i would seriously reconsider if i were you.

Re: London Cat wants a boyfriend.

Just to clarify, I would not even begin to consider the thought of Edith breeding if I didn't already have amazing homes lined up for her kittens. Beyond that the reason I would also love her to breed is so that I would be able to keep part, if not all of her family. I would never be so reckless as to try and breed her if I ever in my wildest dreams thought that any of her kittens would end up in a shelter. I am simply not that sort of pet owner/lover. I would never allow that to happen.
I have no bias as to who mates with Edith. I do not think it is cruel to spay her, I simply want her to have the full life experience of any cat. The reason I want to try and pre-arrange a mate is so that she doesnt simply end up getting pregnant in the garden, as I feel that has the potential to be a risk to her health, and I would like to know the cat and the owner before they mate.
To answer the question of whether she has started calling yet, she has. She has now how two heats, and I sense is ready to breed.
I understand having kittens is a huge undertaking. I have had cats and kittens all my life, and Edith herself was a very demanding kitten. I know however that I want the challenge.
Thank you for all your feedback none the less, they are all very valid questions.
