A dilemma -calling again ...

A young queen of mine went to stud recently but she is now in call again, two weeks later. The mating was not witnessed even though the breeder had been recommended as one who does witness matings. The breeder had promised a second attempt at the mating in case it did not work. However, having tried to call at different times during the past two and a half days, the telephone is not answered. What can you advise?

a) just chalk it down to experience and go for another mating with a different stud? (another stud fee and test, more petrol money ...)

b) my preferred option - write to the breeder and let her know that I am worried about her as she lives alone and it could be that she is unwell or even sillier, just lost the phone under a pile of cat bedding?

c) keep trying to phone?

Keep trying to phone maybe. But personally I would go to another stud owner who makes sure matings are witnessed.

I would do B & C too. You paid for a service Rraa and therefore entitled to another mating if the first attempt did'nt work. Does the lady show or anything ? maybe shes away.

Re: A dilemma -calling again ...

Keep trying to get in touch Raa, as this breeder was recommended can you not get in touch with person/s who recommended-as you'll Know most breeders who allow you into stud will usually witness at least 1/2 matings and if Queen doesn't take allow you back for your girl to have a second mating, would try another day or so as you say-she may just be really busy, does she live far from you as i'm thinking maybe you could call and chat-know it's hard coz you don't want to mither but at the same time a "gentlewomans agreement" as such. But our girls like Meezers have called as if they never went to stud and then-so maybe just wait and see if she pinks upHopefully she will and it'll be you being a bit overanxious(don't blame you)given the lady hadn't witnessed anything,or did she at least hear anything-know some are quiet but some scream like they've been slowly tortured don't they

Re: A dilemma -calling again ...

Thank you all for your kind replies. I have given the stud owner the benefit of the doubt and continued calling but now I have also drafted a letter to say, basically, "have been trying to ring but not getting a reply - am becoming worried about you. Please give me a quick call to reassure me that you are ok, or if you prefer, just drop me a line - here is a stamped, addressed envelope to save you having to look up my address etc. Hope you are well and perhaps we may be able to agree another mating soon. Kind regards ..." In my letter I did remind the lady of my queens name and the dates she visited her boy (and named him as she has two) so that everything would add up nicely. I hope this does not come across as rude and pushy.

However, I did get a call from another breeder with a stud - when it became clear that I was having difficulties and my queen's call was progressing to the close of Day 2, I put my feelers out. This proved fruitful.... so far (cross fingers and hope)

Both my queens are now out on honeymoon - the senior queen with her usual 'husband' and the younger queen with this lovely new beau ...

So in the end I did all three things. Ok I had to spend a bit but sometimes, I just "push the boat out" a bit. rolleyes: Lets hope this time it will be worthwhile.

No, I don't think that is rude or pushy Ra. Sounds just fine to me.
Fingers crossed for the girls, that things have taken this time Look forward to the patter of tiny paws
