Kitty Questions.

One: I was wondering, Wendy touched upon this subject but Shakey distracted us by having a another kitten, How could I tell if any of the kittens will be semi-long haired? As the father of the kitties has semi-long fur, Although it appears he wasn't the only daddy. So could his, what can I say without sounding stupid .... "fur genes" have effected the other dads kitties? Some seem more... fuzzy/fluffy than others, but they are all the different sizes so I wondered if that can effect the appearance of their fur length.

Two: This also is quite a silly question, especially to the more experienced breeders, but, I've always been lead to believe that the runt is the last kitten to be born, until I realized, that number 1 kitten is smaller than number 6 so is it possible for the runt to be random? Sorry if it's known knowledge but this is the first litter I have been old enough to understand/ more involved in.

I think that's all I have to ask

I can only answer this question as I don't deal with the SLH or LH breeds sorry. The "runt" (and I loathe that word) of the litter can be any of the babies born. i.e. a 5th baby born out of 8 might be the smallest, or the 2nd baby born of 3 might be the smallest. In a litter of 6, you will find the weights may vary dramatically. We have had litters of 5 and 6 and there there is a 200 gram span between the smallest and largest baby.

Re: Kitty Questions.

The gene that causes the cat to be long hair/semi long hair is a recessive one, so if the kitten is to be a anything other than short hair, both parents would have to pass on a longhair gene. What is Mum?

I don't think there are any rules about kitten size, little ones and big ones can come out in whatever order. Thats what I've found anyway.

Re: Kitty Questions.

You should have a rough idea wether they have longhair by the time they are 6 weeks. Not always though, lol. A friend of ours has a beautiful black & white moggy and she has only now started to show that she's longhaired, she is 8 months. Obviously with the peds it's easier, as we know what we should get

As cat said, the smallest can be any of them, this litter at the minute baby 3 is the little one

Thanks guys, I hate the word runt also seems like a harsh word, but thats all I knew how to say it, if you get me

Saikou Mum is Short haired. But it confused me when I got my SLH friend (Cheese), as his parents wasn't SLH thats why I chose him, because he obviously was a wonder of the world lol... and he's the one I speak of in my first post.

Wendy OH YEAH! I remember you saying, thats when I was directed to your homepage! All the excitement of that day made me light headed... sorry D:

Ahhhh - Sola is my Tinie Dinkie Girl - she was the middle cat and came out breech. Star was the Tinie Dinkie of her litter and you should see her now
(well you can she's below)

North and Star's Mum had long hair - North had a short shiny coat - Star has always been fuzzy - Their Grandma didn't have long hair!!

Good Luck with your lovelies - I posted piccy too
