I use cotton buds dipped in food colouring under the armpits, so to speak

Congrats!

Re: newly born kitten advice needed!

Those sound like decent weights to me. If you weight them at roughly the same time each day, you can track how well they are doing.

I personally wouldn't tie anything around their necks, or mark them with anything unless you know its 100% safe for Mum to lick off, or the kittens to absorb through their skin. I have had litters of all siamese cream point boys - so no colour appears - and never had trouble telling them apart, they are all different in one way or another.

Re: newly born kitten advice needed!

When I had two girls who were completely identical for the first week or two, I dabbed a bit of food colouring on the pad of their back foot.

Re: newly born kitten advice needed!

I think that if you look at them long enough it soon becomes easy to tell then apart. I call them names too like, big boy, big girl, tiny, big feet, floppy ear, long body, etc as that reminds you which is which too.

I am with Saikou here too, I wouldn't put anything around their necks in case they choke, nor anything chemical that may upset them or mum.

Re: newly born kitten advice needed!

I am glad to hear they are doing well even if they look similar, when you spend alot of time with them, their personalities give you subtle differences as well. Its easier when their eyes open fully too and you can see their little faces.
