Re: Do I or don't I?

Kittens do bring alot of happiness, and if you
  • can mate your cat safely without exposing her to disease/injury
  • have guaranteed loving forever homes lined up for the kittens, or are able to keep the entire litter if need be
  • are able to offer the owners of your kittens a lifetime of support, including taking the cat back/helping find them another home if need be
  • have the time and money ( and it can be very expensive if something goes wrong) to care for Mum and kittens, you may have to find £100s at the drop of a hat
  • ideally send the kittens out fully vaccinated, wormed etc

then why not, moggie or pedigree they are all beautiful. If anyone can not do all of the above, then spaying is the best option.

Re: Do I or don't I?

I think my Nefertiti would have some stunning kittens shes a real beauty is my girl. But thats just it you know. All cats ARE beautiful and if we ALL thought maybe just 1 litter.

Get her spayed. I have also heard that if spayed at a young age (around 6 months) they will recover quicker

Nefertiti will be off for her spay in two weeks. I didn't do it for a while as I felt the same way maybe she could have just 1 litter. I think the sad story of my Serafina who came from a lady giving a way her and her kittens made me seriously rethink. Not that either of us would do such a terrible thing as give our precious cat away if it got pregnant and had kittens and proved too much for us. But it is a sad fact that there arn't enough loving homes in the world as there are kittens.

Re: Do I or don't I?

I agree with Saikou - kittens & breeding bring such joy, but at the same time sorrow also. And some of it can be absolutely devastasting as I have recently experienced.
But when its good - its amazing

Re: Do I or don't I?

After a lot of thought I have decided to go along with my original plan and get Dorrie spayed after Christmas.
I am also thinking of getting another cat after Christmas too. Maybe from a rescue centre. But that will be after we have got Dorrie sorted out first.
