Re: Odd situation...
Ah well, it appears that my nailbiting will continue for a few more weeks yet. The question of whether my little miss is pregnant or not remains a mystery. The vet examined her and had this confused look on her face the whole time.
She said yes, she definitely has swollen teats, but the nipples don't seem any larger, her stomach is not big and she could not feel any kittens inside. I asked her if it was possible that maybe only one kitten survived the procedure and if so, could that explain why her belly isn't swollen and why you can't feel anything. She said yes, that is possible. She told me without and x-ray or sonogram it is impossible to confirm it. I decided that it was not worth spending the money for that because at this point she would be due to deliver in about 2-3 weeks from what we could figure out from the date of the spay procedure, so she said to just wait. She weighed her and I have to bring her back next week to check again. This is just too bizarre. It has never happened to me before because I'm so careful not to let unspayed females out anywhere they could be reached. Who knew some superpowered Tom lived in the neighborhood? Good grief, he ripped open chicken wire with his paws to get in! ![]() So, I am treating her as if she is pregnant and will prepare everything and keep a very close eye on her for the next couple of weeks. My personal feeling is - I know my cat very well, and I think she is pregnant, not just from the physical signs but from her behavior as well. So I will err on the side of caution and be prepared for the possibility of an expanded family. All I can say is if a kitten or kittens did survive a spaying, obviously God intended to make sure that it/they live, and must be very special! |

Re: Odd situation...
Ok, I have been watching my little girl closely for a few weeks now. The great mystery - is she really pregnant, is it a false pregnancy, is it mummified fetuses, have I lost my mind and imagined it all - is about to be unveiled.
I believe that at least one kitten survived the spay operation and this kitty is indeed pregnant. I've ruled out a false pregnancy because according to all I've read and asked about, they indicate that symptoms would have subsided by now. The vet said at her last exam she couldn't feel any kittens, but it could be only one considering the circumstances and without a sonogram she couldn't confirm anything. We were so close to a due date that she said to hold off on the sonogram and if nothing happens by the end of the first week of Dec, then I have to bring her back to see just what is going on. I remember when she was in heat and combined with the vet's estimate that she was about 15 days or so pregnant when she went in to be spayed, then by all calculations, the due date could be anytime from today on. (Impossible to know for sure, since this all happened "on the sly" when Tomcat Cassanova ripped a hole in the wire fencing I have enclosing everything to supposedly keep this kind of thing from happening before everyone can be spayed/neutered.) I have been observing her very closely and I am seeing some changes that could indicate that the time is indeed close. I'll let you know when and if the blessed event occurs. This is one of the strangest situations I have ever had with any of my pets. ![]() |
