advice needed please

hello everyone, a little help needed please. having found a beautiful black and white kitten to complete our family around eight month ago i didnt think it would be so soon before we would be celebrating her having kittens lol. during her first heat, my daughter let her out and guess what....now ive just spotted a swollen tummy!!!

i havnt had a cat since i was young and never experienced a cat pregnancy or litter. i havnt a clue what i should be doing, signs of labour or anything. so any advice would be much appreciated. i am also a little worried as my cat, Sapphy is quite a bit smaller that an average cat and im worried about the stress of labour on her. she's like my own baby lol.

any help and advice would be great...if only to put my mind at rest. thanks in advance. take care everyone......Kate xx

Re: advice needed please

Hello Kate and welcome. Whilst eight months is rather young for a little cat to already be pregnant, I think she will cope. We have had a few threads on here recently covering the topics that you may find useful to read through. I suggest you have a peep on the thread started by George on 21st May entitled "Had a show - how long until 1st kitten?" - this is quite long so you may just want to look at some of the others to give you further bits of information - some contain rather gooey pictures.

Do you know what date your cat "escaped on honeymoon"? Working from this date, I suggest you count 65 days and that would be the approximate date on which kittens can be expected. I say approximate because the gestation is typically between 63 and 70 days - a wide gap I know but some breeds like to keep one waiting longer than others.

Pinking up of the teats will give you an idea of how far gone she is. 'pinking up' is normally at about 21 days and the gestation period is 63-65 days. However Summer kept me waiting til day 68 which is quite usual too. Hope this helps C.x.

Haha, sounds as though she could be then, if it's not her normal eating pattern
