katnjakey is on a distinguished road
advise please!!

hi guys! so picassos kittens are now 11 days old and peppas are a week tomorrow , all are thriving and picassos little ones eyes are open a wee bit too

thing is all of a sudden picasso has taken great interest in peppas kittens! shes constantly watching them (they are under the stairs hidden by peppa early hours of the morning a few days ago lol!! and i thought they didnt move them!!) she runs to them when they cry etc but doesnt go in. we tried putting one in front of her to see what she did, as im worried she wants to kill them to protect hers or sumething and all she did was growl at it! so immediately we replaced him, peppa came over and a massive fight ensued!! my girls arent like that normally! thing is when picasso was looking laid back persian peppa was just sprawled out watching from a distance! surely if picasso was a threat shed of intervened before hand? and not when picasso got narky??

not sure what to do, do i move one litter to seperate them (picassos are in living room) so they cant get to each other at night?? or do i leave them? all kittens are thriving and there are no marks etc on either litter to say theyve been harmed by the other mummy, so was picasso and peppas spat a fluke? hubby was holding both of them and they were hissing at him so he thinks its his fault they went for each other, they were fine 5 seconds later lol!

sorry im a nervous first time kitty mummy!!

Re: advise please!!

both your cats are being good mummies, picasso just hears a baby cry and she is making sure its ok by the sounds of things and of course peppa is just trying to make sure her babies are safe

O dear. You certainly don't want another fight breaking out like that, if queens get too stressed they may kill their own kittens. Under the circumstances I would separate the litters until they are quite a lot older rather than risk it.

Re: advise please!!

I agree with Liz - err on the safe side and separate them.

Re: advise please!!

Definitely separate them. It's rare that nursing mum's get along with other nursing mum's. Mine don't even get on when they haven't got babies

Re: advise please!!

Agreed.

Keep them seperate, if necessary a litter tray in a room each and feed and play with them in their own rooms until the kittens are weaned and can all mingle together without too much stress from the mums.

Be prepared though that when you re-introduce mums again they may have a few growls and spats purely because they will have been apart for so long. You need to re-introduce them like you would if you had just brought one into the house again.

Re: advise please!!

I also think keeping them separate is the best thing.
From the infection point of view too, if you do get infection in the kittens then hopefully only one litter will get it.
