Kitten Weights

How often should I be weighing my kittens and roughly how much should they be gaining?
I'm sure they already look bigger than they did yesterday!

Thanks

Re: Kitten Weights

Wonderful!

Can't wait to check - will try to take individual snaps then - I have to be quick because Zelda is really protective, I'm a little taken aback by this because she was so clingy to me before.

A very anxious kitten cat mum

Re: Kitten Weights

The weights that you posted before seem absolutely brill to me! I wouldnt weigh every day unless you've reason to be concerned, every few days will probably suffice C.x.

Re: Kitten Weights

I breed siamese and orientals and they should ideally put on between 10-14 grms a day, not sure for bigger boned breeds. That said any gain is positive. I wouldn't worry too much if they loose a little bit one day or stay the same, but if they do that for more than a day then it could be a warning sign something is possibly not quite right and I would just keep an eye on that kitten just incase.

If they all look visibly bigger then it sounds as though they are doing great

Re: Kitten Weights

I weigh ours once a day, at the same time each day. It's not uncommon for babies to lose weight within the first 24 hours, particularly if the milk isn't through properly but they should all be gaining by Day 2. Approximately 10 grams a day is adequate There are a lot of breeders who don't weigh every day. I only do it for my own peace of mind

Nothing wrong with being a fuss pot You just wait, by the time they are 8 weeks old and hooning around everywhere you will be as insane as I am (I was normal before I had cats lol)
