Re: What stud

Do you mean to buy or to use for your cat?

Assuming you mean the stud service it depends on a variety of things.

The colours you want out of your litter is one factor. If you have a brown spotty queen and you only want brown spotties then it's no good taking her to a stud that is known to carry snow or marble.

Distance is a factor - don't use a stud too far away from your home because the girl is likely to go off call.

Yes, I think pedigree is important too. And that he's been working as a stud for some time so is 'proven'.

Finally when you choose your stud make sure that the stud owner has a 'free repeat matings' written in her stud agreement. There are STILL people taking money for their stud service when the stud does not sire kittens.

Re: What stud

Ooh and make sure that the stud owners insist on the queens being tested before they go in!

Re: What stud

Well it depends on what your aiming to breed-show/petsThen you look at potential studs in your travelling range, research his lines as much as possible, other kitts he's sired, boys and girls, then as said if he's got what your girl needs ie,color, type and no nasty health issues and his slave is happy to allow your girl to honeymoon with him-if your breeding to try for show kitts then you want him to take out any faults and put in what your girl/cattery is lacking
What about you then Janet-what have you in mind-Hmmm?Do you breed already and if so forgive me-i've been popping in and out of here unregularly so maybe i'm behindSorry of course-just noticed your banner-so is it your first attempt at using a stud? Great advice SKAlso in reguards to the latter post about stud fees-Any reputable and respected breeder would have this in a written or spoken agreement and would normally assure you of a repeat mating should your girl not take on her 1st visit-they understand that especially with a maiden she doesn't always take on a 1st visit-no matter how active her and chosen lad have been

So do you ask for the pedigree of the stud about how long before you need him?

Re: What stud

send your girl's pedigree to stud owners. make sure the pedigrees compliment each other. go and view the stud, the owner and their set up before you take your girl. ensure your girl is going somewhere where she will be looked after. ask lots of questions and inspect the stud house and make sure it's clean and you will just be able to tell if things don't look "right" go with you instincts. start looking now, call people, visit people. your girl must be very precious and you won't want to leave her with just "anybody" even if the stud looks good. BE CAREFUL make sure you see his registration documents too.

I would expect to be given a copy of his pedigree certificate following the initial enquiry.

If you use a certain well known Bengal stud list you can't go far wrong - most of the pedigrees for the studs are on there anyway.

Sorry if Ive asked this before but have we exchanged emails before? Were you doing a garage conversion?
