Re: What stud

You shouldn't have any problem trying to get the pedigree of your stud - if you do, avoid them.
I'm not sure why you would wantto send your girl's pedigree in. It's the reponsibility of the queen's owner (you) to make sure that the stud is suitable. I will PM you the best place to look for studs.

If you use a certain well known Bengal stud list you can't go far wrong - most of the pedigrees for the studs are on there anyway.

Sorry if Ive asked this before but have we exchanged emails before? Were you doing a garage conversion?
I emailed you a few months ago about Bengal kittens, but you did not have any at the time

Re: What stud

Before I chose the first stud I went to, I went to lots of shows and looked at the cats I liked the look at, saw who their fathers were and went from there, checked that the pedigrees were what I wanted, I wanted an outcross to my girl, then went to visit them and narrowed it down from there. Its best to have a couple, incase when you want to take your girl the stud is busy then you can try your back up boy.

Re: What stud

If the stud owner is too difficult to contact, dont worry about it. Just keep looking.

Recently I was looking for a stud for my youngest queen. Contacted a highly recommended stud owner who lives within easy travelling distance but did not get an answer to my calls until two weeks later.

By then, another stud - recommended by a good friend of mine with whom I used to correspond by email - was chosen instead. Hopefully, Kiki might be visiting him soon.

Re: What stud

Thank you Kelly! My point was that the stud owner should be easy to contact if you are leaving your queen with someone. She is your precious girl and you should be able to "reach her" and know how she is getting on.

The boy Kiki may be honeymooning with is a gorgeous stunning, well proven seal point guy. He is so loving and friendly.

Another thing to point out about choosing a stud - as Fluffypurrs says, try to go and see him first. Then you can tell what he is like - its important to find a male who is outgoing and friendly and with no serious flaws (squint or pale eyes, kinks in tale for example).

Re: What stud

Hi, we don't often go out to stud as we have our own boy, but this year I do have a number of outcross boys lined up to take some girls to. When I was looking for boys I wanted to know the following:

a) pedigree
b) how well my queen will be treated during her stay
c) longetivity of progeny produced
d) health issues in the line
e) whether or not matings are fully supervised
f) what the boy has been tested for and how recently
g) how often said boy has outside girls in for matings
h) whether or not the stud owner works full time (had a bad experience with a stud owner who did)

There could be more but they are my main concerns. For any queen owner who is a novice breeder, she should explain this to the stud owner who should then take on the responsibility of ensuring that the pedigrees will gel So if you've not been out to stud before, tell the stud owner and ask them to look at the pedigrees and give you their expert opinion

Oh, and it's never too early too start looking either. When one of our future breed/show queens was 3 months old I was already making inquiries and found 2 suitable studs by the time she was months old (I was looking for something specific and hard to come by with our chosen breed).
