my rescue cat has just had her kittens

hiya everyone
i recently took on a cat from someone who was giving her away she was pregnant so i decided to take her on incase she fell into the wrong hands. The previous owner said she is about a year old but she is a very small cat. She is now on her 6th kitten and im pretty sure she has another in there. Im worried about whether she is going to be able to cope with all these babies they are all obviously quite tiny and not the trongest kittens i have seen, i have had to help her alot while giving birth but she is starting to settle now has anyone got any advice on the cat being able to cope with all these babies and whether you think i should lend a helping hand or whether i should stay out of it.

Re: my rescue cat has just had her kittens

See if you can weigh them - if you can, the key is to check that they are gaining weight. If she has plenty of milk she will be able to cope with 7 kittens. If not you might have to supplement them - probably they will be OK overnight.

Re: my rescue cat has just had her kittens

Hello and congrats!

My cat Tilda is TINY, she looks about 10months old and has brain damage, the vet said shes fine and healthy, just small framed and petite.

She had 6 kittens 9wks ago and she has coped brilliantly, she gets a bit peeved when shes just sitting relaxing and all 6 of them start hanging off her trying to feed but she hardly left them until they were weaned.

You can help by making sure shes eating and drinking plenty to help produce milk.

Good luck!

xx
