First litter advise
My little cat is due next month, I am as clued up and prepared as I will ever be, but just one question, she is very long haired, what happens when the kittens arrive? Should I give her a little trim round her nipples (thinking probably not), she is so soft she would let me do anything, I just don't want the little kitties getting a mouthful of mum fluff lol!
Ohhhh I can't wait to be a granny ![]() |

Re: First litter advise
Oh thanks for the advise, I thought I was being silly and over protective, obviously not.
I will post pictures when she has them, I have promised myself that if she has 3 or less then I will keep them. Does the size of the queen have any relevance on the size of the litter, she is quite small so am keeping my fingers crossed. |

Re: First litter advise
Haha, I would love to keep all these, but she had 6!!, lol. No not really, my other Queen that had kittens last year is not very big for a Norwegian, she had 7!!! The one with the 6 at the minute had 7, but sadly one was stillborn after being stuck, we rushed her to the vets, but it was too late sadly.
No, you're not being silly, clipping does'nt hurt and if it helps keep them clean and comfortable then thats best for the cat I think. Selkcah Norwegian Forest Cats |

Re: First litter advise
hi
if she is really long haired then id prob do a little trimming to just be extra careful as shell be sensitive. most cats remove a little fur around their nipples to make it easier for the kittens by licking at it in the days leading up to birth - but as i said for a really long haired i prob give a bit of a hand.... cant wait for the pics - im always really excited when ive got a litter due - bet you cant wait........ size of mum doesnt really make much differnce in litter size - ive got one whos first litter was 8 and her next litter only 4 - just depends - you never really can tell - youve just gotta wait..... susie and the gang

Re: First litter advise
Thanks for the advise. It is just wishful thinking about the size of the litter really, I really hope to keep as many as I can. I love my cats and can certainly accommodate another 3, I do have homes for a further 3 if needs be, but I know I will be really sad although I can visit them when I want.
Jess came from a stray cat that wandered into my sisters house one day and gave birth. She seems to have some tendancies of a ferral cat, until just a couple of months ago she pooed in either clean folded up washing or washing by the washer, she also searches through the bin when the kids leave the lid off, even though she has food in her bowl, just hope the kittens learn better lol! I am really excited, I also have 3 children who can't wait, you would think our lottery numbers were coming up! Last edited by Shell E Bobs; 10-05-2008 at 10:02 PM. |
