Re: 5 Day's Old and Kitten Not Feeding

Hi. I have looked at her and I don't think she has a cleft palette but i wouldn't swear to it. I have been trying to feed her on and off all day. Now and again she almost starts to suckle from a bottle and then stops again so i'm kind of just forcing drops down her really. She is quite vocal when she wakes so i am assuming she is hungry and then try and feed her until she goes back off to sleep and i have her wrapped up on a water bottle.

I have put her back in with mummy a few times and she does curl up with the others and mummy is great with her but she still doesn't suckle and starts meowing again. Thanks for all the advice - it has been just what i needed.

I would give the baby Kittystim and feed with a syringe it is easier than a bottle if the baby is to weak to suck

Re: 5 Day's Old and Kitten Not Feeding

Hi. I am feeding her cimicat which is what the vet gave me. She doesn't sound funny when she breathes or anything and she doesn't have bubbles coming out of her nose. She just meows and meows but doesn't want to feed and she's the same when she is with mum.

This is great and that mum is interested-you just(say just, know it's hard) have to feed her yourself-it does get better-so keep at it

Re: 5 Day's Old and Kitten Not Feeding

Moms seem to have an instinct when something is wrong. Its so gutting when you lose one, i lost one to a cleft palate last year, we had a little funeral for him,mom killed him but the other kitties were fine and grew up into lovely cats.
Sorry you didnt have a better outcome after all your hardwork.

Re: 5 Day's Old and Kitten Not Feeding

Well mummy went back in with the 3 kittens and now seems very settled - more so than before and she is feeding and cleaning. I can only assume she knew something was wrong with the little one.
