Stud owners/Queen owners expectations

This is mainly for breeders but am sure there are those who may have once been breeders who no longer do so and who have an opinion on this. There are also those who show and who have good friendships with breeders who also have opinions on this.

For those of you who are queen owners (and I would be very interested to hear from new breeders too) who have to take their queens out to stud, what would you expect of the stud owner and stud?

For those of you who own stud cats and who receive visiting queens, what would you expect of the queen owner?

Looking forward to your replies with interest.

Re: Stud owners/Queen owners expectations

Afternoon RitaWe have as you'll know taken our girls out to stud and apart from the reasons you chose that particular stud,in answer to your question-we expect the stud owner to care for our queen the way they would take care pf their own-on every level and so far we have not been disappointed We expect them to witness at least 2 matings and courtesy calls or updates on whats happening and how they've been with/near each other At the moment our girls have been with our own lad and as i'm very, very close to both owners Know that our girls receive such excellent care and love whilst they are "romancing" they don't want to come home

Re: Stud owners/Queen owners expectations

I think finding a stud owner you would trust to leave your girl with is the hardest part. I always visit before hand and look for a nice clean outside house, with adequate place for the queen, and a lovely friendly boy who doesn't mind you visiting with him. A stud owner who takes an interest in the likes and dislikes of your girl is a must too. Like SK said, regular updates, and the matings monitored initially to ensure the two are going to get on and neither is going to get injured.

I have my own boys for some of my girls, but they live in the house. Although I get enquiries about them all the time, I would never consider putting them at open stud unless I had the proper facilities. I don't think its right to bring an outside girl into your house where there is no real barrier between her and the rest of your household.

IF a Queen was to visit my boy,
I would expect the visiting Queen to be in Excellent health have the paperwork from the Vet to say she had been blood tested, claws cut (front and back) pink slip saying Active.
inoculations up to date,

What I expect of a stud owner.
A healthy stud, inoculations and blood testing up to date,
A boy who is happy to have visitors,
Clean Queen quarters,(heated)
Witness matings,
updates from the stud owner,

Re: Stud owners/Queen owners expectations

Thanks May, Kelly and Kim for your replies, all of which I heartily agree with and expected. I just thought it would be useful for those who are starting out breeding so that we can all share what is considered a good standard.

Sometimes when I take my girl to a stud, I have to ask the stud owner to hold her whilst I give her a manicure and pedicure. This does two things - it means the stud owner can be sure that her "nails" are done and it gives me some help as sometimes it is a two person job.

Re: Stud owners/Queen owners expectations

There is only one Stud and Stud Owner I trust and unfortunatly it's my girl's Dad LOL.... So I will only take my girl to someone recommended to me by this person.
