Insurance for Breeding Queens

Hi Guys

Do you insure your breeding queens? I understand that there isnt a company out there that insures for pregnancy related illness & death. Or if they do that its far too much money.

Some I have spoke to dont insure their queens at all and keep a reserve in their bank account for any vets treatment.

Opinions please................

Re: Insurance for Breeding Queens

I dont have insurance on any of my cats because there are that many, that it costs less in the long run just to pay the vets bills. What I try to do, and it takes a lot of self-discipline is keep a cat fund in a separate account, so that whenever I sell a kitten it goes back into that fund, and goes on to any further vets bills. I have had to add my own funds to it btw which just shows that there is no profit in cat breeding rolleyes:

On the other hand if you only have say up to three cats in your household, I would recommend getting them all insured, or indeed any pet only household. It would be worth your while in the long run. Breeding catteries and multipet households are what make the vets the millionaires that they are, lol.

Re: Insurance for Breeding Queens

Good question Saffron - I have found the same. I have two breeding queens and neither are insured for breeding. I just pay money into my account specially to pay the vet if it should be necessary.

The good thing about paying straight off without the insurance companies is that you get the bill paid immediately without any snooping prying questions or hoops to jump through.

Re: Insurance for Breeding Queens

We don't insure our queens either-but they do have their very own kitty as it were for any unexpected situations
