Cat due any day and fathers turned up!!!

Hi all, i have been reading with interest for a couple of weeks and have read some really good info that has stopped me worrying too much so Thankyou

Anyway a little info on my situation.

Sadly i left it too late to get my girl cat spayed and she got pregnant at 10/11 months old by a couple of different cats that camped out in my garden for a week.
One of the father cats turned up again yesterday and is now camped out on my doorstep again!! The thing is my girl cat is due anyday now( she has had some green gunky discharge for the pass few day which i assume is the plug coming away) She is still going out and hanging around with the father cat but im worried, IS it dangerous for them to mate when she is so close to giving birth? Why has he come back? Surely she cant be in heat??

Any thought gratefully received

Re: Cat due any day and fathers turned up!!!

I think its very irresponsible to allow a pregnant cat to be roaming outside! even more so whn she`s nearly due green gunk doesnt sound healthy either, could end up being a nasty infection, maybe pyro which will result in a hefty vets bill and a emergency spay, cost me £800 when this happened to me last year.
Lets hope alls well, and cat doesnt drop kittens somewhere in a ditch, and father hasnt got any nasty diseases to share

Green gunk doesn't sound good - I'd get a vets opinion if you can as it sounds like an infection - at least they would be able to put your mind at rest. The plug should be a creamy pink colour as should any discharge at tis stage.

When cats get close they can seem to go into heat - I'm assuming it is all the hormones kicking in for the birth. This is what is probably attracting the male. Having him mate withher could introduce an infection if she is nearly ready for birth and affect the unborn kittens (not advised).

I would seriously reccomend keeping her in now, a) to keep her away from the tom and b) so she gives birth in the house and not under a hedge somewhere. She will then need to be kept in until the kittens are weaned and until you have her spayed if you are having her spayed or at least for a good few weeks so she gets a chance to recover from having had kittens before you let her get pregnant again.

Re: Cat due any day and fathers turned up!!!

Sorry i havent posted i was kinda put off by the quite nasty 2nd reply which i dont think was called for at all.

Anyway to the nice ones who replied thank you for your concern and just to let you know we have 2 healthy kittens one born 7.10pm and the other 7.41pm since then Chaplina has not been doing anymore pushing so looks like we have 2 healthy kittens which we can keep making us a 4 cat household
Wasnt looking forward to having to give any away.

Hope all goes well with everyone else who are anxiously waiting like i was, more nerve wracking than when i was pregnant with my dd !!
