New babies!

Hi...we have new babies. Haley, my tortie Himalayian has 3 georgeous new babies. They are one week old today. Her mum, Mischa had 6 babies in January and the last little one went to its new home last weekend. I kept them till they were 9- 10 weeks old. Mischa is back in heat....I, will not breed her this soon of course, but wonder if she will continue coming in heat all spring, if not bred. Her litter was 10 weeks old last Friday. I am new at this and am not sure how the heat cycles work. My vet thinks she will go out of heat and rest for a few months. Is this what queens normally do? Has anyone ever put stud pants on a male and allowed him to "pretend" breed the queen in order to cause a false pregnancy, thus keeping her from coming into heat constantly? I have another queen in heat now, but do not wish to breed her as I will be away when the kittens would be due. I do, however wish to breed her next month so am keeping her separate from my stud. The vet said heat periods last 1-3 weeks....if this is so, how long before they usually go back in heat? Is there no method to his madness of heat cycles in cats? I am getting more confused by the day.

Re: New babies!

Hi DSIt would seem that all female felines are horny whoars Not sure with your breed but ours (Siamese) come into call quite regular and when they've had kitts it's usually when they're kitts are 6/8 wks old. They(Siamese) come into call every 2 wks or so and beleive me their is no let upHowever if you want to knock them off calling/heat for a while i'm sure their is homeopathic remedies that you can use and will do them no harm as they are natural remediesNever experienced stud pants so can't help with that but i think one of the others has.Gorgeous kitts from a beautiful mum-well done!

Hi...nope never shave the boobies. My luck, I would actually nick one off! The kittens seem to do just fine though.

Re: New babies!

Hi Siamese Kelly....what do you do with your calling queens? Is it not as hard on them coming into heat every 2 weeks as it is to let them get pregnant? What a nerve wracking little bunce of hussys our cats are! I doubt if herbal stuff is even heard tell of in this neck of the woods. I am considering letting Angel maul her with his stud pants on ....thus hopefully throwing her into a false pregnancy. This happened with one queen before when the male was too young to mate and was practising ..... she had 2 two month long false ptegnancys before he actually bred her. It sure stopped the blasted heats for awhile. How do you manage your male without stud pants? Mine is a sprayer and has to wear them whenever I let him out of the bathroom.

Re: New babies!

Well our live in stud boy is only 10 wks old at the minute..
and our other boy doesn't live with us,so not a problem.....yetWe let our girls scream-as after a while we kinda got deaf to them and we have great neighbors-thank godLuckily our girls follow each other it's rare they come into call/heat at the same timeNot sure about the "pretend mating"/false pregnancy's as dunno that this wouldn't mess with their heads/hormones and they don't need that but maybe someone else will be able to help
