Re: breeding yourself into a corner
This should be interesting (though I doubt you'll get many participants). We've got just one spay at the moment, and that's my little girl Flower. She's staying here (that's the plan anyway).

Re: breeding yourself into a corner
Nothing like being prepared!
![]() I have only been breeding for a couple of years, so haven't had to do too much worrying about rehoming yet. However over that time I have come to know my cats well and I know I have to rehome 2 girls and not keep them as pets. The reason being that these particular girls have behaviour problems. One is terrified of Bengals so has to be segregated, which is lonely for her. The other one is the opposite - large, and in charge and does beat the hell out of the other cats if she has a mind to. To keep those two on would be crazy. I love my big bully to bits and would love to keep her, but I have to think about my other cats too. These two need to go to homes where they can be 'only children'. ![]() You'll find things crop up unexpectedly, fluffy, so you can't plan that far ahead - just have a general idea of what you are going to do, and your basic principles.

Re: breeding yourself into a corner
humm i would never be able to let any of my cats go unless they would be leaving for a better life but then again i wouldn't have bought them in the 1st place if i thought they would not have the best life possible. when breeding cats in the past we also ended up with a huge number of cats although we were able to cope as we had the extra space of a farm for them to live in but food and bills were huge beyond belief

Re: breeding yourself into a corner
Most of the cats I buy now are to complement my current breeding programme. I am always mindful that they will get to between four and six and I will retire them - and most of them will not stay with me. Trying to keep a neuter/spay in with a lot of hormonal girls is pretty difficult.
You have to be quite disciplined, emotionally, to be a large scale breeder. I have one girl that I really don't want to rehome - I love her to bits, and she is my baby, having been chosen more for her cute face than her contribution to the breed. She is now spayed and I want her to stay here with us, but it may not be possible. My heart will break having to rehome her, but that's something I will do for her. You have to be disciplined and really love your cats to do what we do. Saying anything different is just ignorance speaking. I am more than willing to educate if people promise to listen.

Re: breeding yourself into a corner
Graciously accepted Aj
Though don't think i was offended-baffled slightly but thats why these subjects are great to discuss-so different views and reasoning can be aired, most of it does come across as rubbish but clean it up and we are left with lots to think about and discuss![]() ![]() |
