She might only give birth if...

Our cat now 68days is eating sleep for britain but when shes not she sits next to the door looking up at it. If i go out of the door she won't force herself out she will just stand back and look. I feel so sorry for her because she is used to being out all day and most nights. I think that she might want to give birth in the roof of our garage as that is where she usually sleeps do yuu think she is prosponing until we let her out? Should i let her out and see what happens? We have an acre of land so wouldn't want to lose her! IF she gets contractions and there ready to come out will they or will they only come out when she wants them to? I am worried as were getting to the end of the 70day limit! thanks sorry all this worrys me lol x

Re: She might only give birth if...

DON'T LET HER OUT. She may be appealing to you with those eyes but really she could give birth anywhere and they might not survive. Birthing on top of the garage roof really isn't a good place. You are her responsible adult and you know best.

Like all pregnant things (humans included) once those contractions start you can't stop them by thinking about it (I think the human race would have died out if that were the case!), when her body is ready she will give birth. Are you accurate on when she mated? 65 days is an average - she has another couple of days to go yet so don't panic. At 70 days take her to the vets and see what they say, it shouldn't be an automatic caesar, they may try to induce her first.

Try not to worry or watch her all the time (she's being like a kettle that never boils when watched) - it will happen and the calmer you are the calmer she will be.

But the biggie is DON'T LET HER OUT!

Re: She might only give birth if...

An aquaintance of mine let her cat out a few weeks ago and when they let her in the next morning they found one already born kitten (freezing cold) who later died and another half in and half out of the cat. If you are worried she or the kittens won't be safe I would keep her in, I am no expert but I can't imagine she can hold on forever.

im day 69 so your not on your own, as above dont let her out, she might need assistance off you, especially if its her first litter and likes been said the babies need to be kept warm, they will come when ready and they might be a few days behind if you didnt see her mate, good luck.

Re: She might only give birth if...

dont let her out!! Ignore her puppy dog eyes!!

A lady I was chatting to (who is having one of my kits) The person she got one off before just has all her cats in the barn outback, they are never indoors, but she then lets them out while pregnant and 2 got killed by a car whilst pregnant

so sad
