help from colour genetic experts!!!
i am currently helping to determine a fellow breeders kitten........i say help but really mean im confused! lol doesnt take much i must admit. i am up to speed with the 'normal' red's, black tortie's, tabbies, dilutes ect. BUT! my friend has a chocolate tortie whom he bred to a solid choclate boy. now im not one to question that his pedigree is wrong, and in fact his cat is a black tabby {she's a sphynx so harder to determine than a coated cat} could anyone give me the possible kitten colours from this mating?
im yet to find out if she and the boy carry for dilute or pointed, but can work that part out......hopefully!!! thanks in advance!!!!! |

Re: help from colour genetic experts!!!
chocolate to chocolate tortie =
girls - chocolate or chocolate tortie boys - chocolate or red if both carry dilute then girls - chocolate, lilac, choctortie, lilac tortie boys - choc, lilac, red, cream if mum is a black tabby then (and neither carry anything) girls and boys - black (with or with out tabby) if both carry dilute girls and boys - black and blue (with or without tabby) if mum also carries chocolate girls and boys - black or chocolate (with or without tabby) if mum carries carries chocolate and dilute and dad carries dilute girls and boys - black, chocolate, blue or lilac (with or without tabby) Does that help?

Re: help from colour genetic experts!!!
chocolate to chocolate tortie will give you only a limited number of possibilities:
chocolate and red males plus chocolate and chocolate tortie females (if neither, or only one parent carries dilute) If both parents carry dilute then add lilac and cream males, plus lilac / lilac tortie females. If mum is black tabby (non tortie) then you'd get black, blue, chocolate, lilac males & females depending on whether parents carry dilute, and/or chocolate in the case of the black girl. Some or all would be tabby depending on whether mum was homozygous for the agouti gene. Last edited by kozykatz; 05-05-2009 at 05:52 PM.. |

Re: help from colour genetic experts!!!
yes, couldn't be white so must be pointed
![]() You're right, it's recessive so both parents must be carrying. |

Re: help from colour genetic experts!!!
brill thank you all so much for all your help
im even more convinced mommy is a black tabby, and to be honest im questioning daddy's colour im so glad we can dna test colour, makes life so much easier hopefully i can convince the breeder to do it, so we know for sure what the babies are, saves the guessing game for the next generation!! |

Re: help from colour genetic experts!!!
LOL - the Burmese Cat Club's mating chart was my bible when I first started breeding, but after all these years I now have it in my head - well the colours at least.
