Re: The belly

did i work out the colours for you? can't remember.

Anyway, mum is a brown tabby and dad is a red tabby - so probably all tabbies.Mum has white so some will have white and some not. Assuming on just these colours and no carrying of recessive genes.

girls - will all be tortie - cos of the red gene from dad, and will probably all be black torties (with or without tabby - but probably with)

boys - will be black. (you can't get red boys as mum doesn't have any red in her and for boys you need two red genes (I believe)

if you add in dilute carrying in both parents (needed in both to show) then

girls - black tortie (+- tabby)
blue cream (+- tabby) - basically a grey tortie
boys - black or grey

and it goes on but I'd just go with the top set and anything extra is a bonus.

A lot less common than you think really. When we were choosing rescue cats years ago - i wnated a tortie and there were none!!! All blacks, or black and white, we waited ages and still didn't get one. I'm still waiting - though this time I want a birman one.

yes, basically all torties are girls - there are the occasional very rare genetic abnormalities that are either boys or both - they think this happens when an embreyo is going to slipt and then doesn't - they tend to be infertile. But very, very rare.
