ok fighting?

hi i know people have put threads up like the one i am posting now so i am sorry but i would like advice.

as you all know i have two queens, my blue girl is pregnant and is due tuesday, my seal went to stud two weeks ago and i am waiting to see if she is pinking up, but i have noticed both are starting to fight big time.

my blue tends to be top dog as they say and will keep my seal in line but it is now getting nasty, hissing spiting, charging at each other and it is not just one of them it is both. they used to play loads bit this is not playing.

what do you all think i should do?

this weekend i was gonna put up my kitten cage and contain her as i don't want her or kittens to get hurt but i am worried about my girls they love being together but right now the fighting is bad.

could it be that my seal is preggy and her hormones and my girl who is due with her hormones making them fight?

Re: ok fighting?

Id say keep them both apart, dont cage one and let the other see her, she might feel trapped?

They are probably fighting for space/territory etc

Hopefully itll go away when he kittens are older!

Re: ok fighting?

Hi,

Yep definitely hormones!! I have had the same trouble, one of my queens is pregnant & I have an upcoming queen who is almost 10 months. Over the last couple of weeks my queen who is pregnant seems to be picking on my upcoming queen. I have now seperated my queen that is due & have put her in my bedroom which I do anyway before the birth. She has about 3 weeks to go so have only put her in my room a little earlier.

There was more hissing & growling so thought it best to seperate before anything awful happened.

Coule you not put the queen who is further along in your room perhaps? Please let us know how you get on

I think that is very sensible.

I think pregnant queens should have as stress-free an environment as possible. Therefore I would separate them at least until the babies are born.

I don’t think that keeping a queen in a kitten cage is a good idea either. This may be very stressful for her too and she will want to have enough space to walk around freely.

Female cats, especially entire ones, can be incredibly territorial and I think that they should have access to their own space and calm surroundings especially if you want to try to ensure that she has a safe and problem-free pregnancy and birth as is possible.

Re: ok fighting?

I really don't intend to scare you but I had something similar after my blue tortie came back from stud only things after a month were no better. Everyone was telling me it was hormones and apart from a bit of rhinitis, my girl seemed well. It was not for another week that it transpired that when she went to stud, unknown to anyone, she probably had a low grade infection and it resulted in a pyometra. It had been impossible to diagnose before going to stud or in fact even 3 weeks after her return from stud.

It is unikely that yours will be the same but just keep an eye out for the obvious discharge.

It does very much sound like with your other girl being heavily pregnant, that it is hormonal but it is just something to keep in mind however unlikely it is.

I hope they settle down soon and am sure it will turn out to be a hormonal/behavioural problem

the only reason i got a kitten cage is that when she was last pregnant she would not go in the kitten room, if i shut the door she would ram it, so i felt this was not good so i got a kitten cage and put it up where all my cats are and she was fine, she came out when i was around and i knew she was safe when i was not around but as soon as she had kittens i moved her into kitten room and she settled with them, so i don't think she likes to be alone.
