weaning question

Hi not sure if any of you remeber me or shall i say my cat Queenie.
She had her kitten on 6th Feb and two of the kittens are feeding really well, using the litter tray etc but the other one still isn't eating the kitten food. Some one told me to try witabix's but it wont eat that it just wants to suckle from Queenie, he is fine in himself a bit of a loner as the other 2 are always playing together and he just likes his own company but is playing.
The thing is i told the new owners the kittens would be ready for friday the 3rd, the other 2 are going together and this one with someone else but i can't rehome him if his not eating kitten food.
I even tried giving him the fomular milk and he wont drink it from the plate only with a siringe. Queenie still lets him suckle but not for long she gets fed up and walks away and he follows trying to suckle.
Any advice??

Re: weaning question

Rice pudding, watered down a little bit and warmed, shallow bowl or saucer and dip his nose in and persist at it, feed him less from syringe so he is hungrier, he'll start to get the jist hopefully x

I've had this problem and this worked wonders x

if you can get him onto that then slowly mix in some kitten food until he takes to it xx

keep us updated hun xx

Re: weaning question

what about some raw food? and mashing up his kitten food & putting a Little in his mouth & on his paws? I did this and nearly all of mine have now eaten some including wet & raw & I did the same with some cimicat milk in a bowl and about 4 of them have drunk of of it (might be more im not in with them 24/7!)

How old are they now? Def dont let him go if he isnt ready!

IO know what you mean with mum, mines getting fed up 8 kits running after her! I feed them with the bottle still to get her a rest & they hold onto it themselves so cute!

Re: weaning question

Thanks all,

I didn't have any rice pudding etc so i tried the witabixs again, i made it really runny with lactol and i dipped his nose in it and it worked!!! i only made half a witabix and he wanted more so i did and he again didn't seem like he knew what he had to do so i put some on his nose and once he licked it off i put the plate in front of him and he had some more.
That was at about 3.30pm it's now 6.44pm and i have just tried to give him the kitten food put some on his nose and he licked it off but he is still not intrested, So im just going to take a step at a time.
I'm happy he had the witabixs as i was a bit worried he wasn't getting enough as he was all the time wanting to suckle.
They are 7wks today.

Re: weaning question

At least he's a step along hun x

it may take a couple of weeks to get him over to kitten food completely so don't expect results overnight x

i would let the new owners know he's just a late starter and needs a little more time xx

Re: weaning question

Ok kitten still not eating. The day after trying the witabixs he decided he doesn't actually like it and hasn't had any since.
I tried the rice pudding and put his nose in it and he licked his nose but wouldn't eat it off the plate, i kept putting the plate infront of him and he keeps walking away from it.
I have tried tuna and chicken and salmon but he wont eat any of it.
I spoke to the women today and at first she said maybe he will eat if Queenie is not there to feed him but i said i can't take that risk. She was fine about it all she is a really lovely lady and said she would phone on Friday and see how he is doing and she doesn't mind waiting she just wants him to be alright.
Im just not sure what to try next.
Any thoughts??

I'm having a think on what to try next, seems he has less of a sweet tooth then x

also was he ever topped up with anything like cimicat or lactol or anything? x

Re: weaning question

I was giving him some lactol before but haven't done since trying the witabixs.
Queenie is still feeding him but not as often, yesterday she kept walking off everytime he tried and i even caught her kicking him off.
But then the odd occasion i would see here letting him feed, so im not sure how much he is getting also his stolls like slightly runny and yellow? But like i said he still is playful.
