Re: need help with a 10 week old kitten

it all depends on the condition of your queen, if she looks tired and needs a rest then yes separate, but if mum is fine and happy for the kitten to keep feeding then just leave them. i breed and keep all my kittens till 13 weeks old they feed from there mum but i find mum will not let them do it if she is not happy with it.

Re: need help with a 10 week old kitten

I've just picked up a 13week old Birman Boy and my breeder said that the litter of 5 would feed of the quuen right up until the week before they went, but then the quuen just wouldnt allow it anymore. Ive not got loads of experience but my 2year old female birman will not do anything she doesnt want to do and so I would imagine the same principles apply here as well. Good Luck

the mums will not let the kitten keep suckling if she is not happy with it, my queens stop letting the babies suck around 12 weeks, by then the kittens should be eating and drinking really well but i have to say all cats are different.

Let him doing it, he is not really feeding, its just a comfort thing. Makes for a better balanced kitten if you let them do things in their own time. The boys are always a bit slower than girls. If both Mum and kitten are happy then leave them to it.

i agree if its doing no harm let them do it
like humans really but we can stick a dummy in our offsprings mouth to stop suckling and give mummy a break. cant picture a kitten with a dummy??!!
