escaping the nest

my kittens are now 3 n half weeks old and have started escaping the nest which althoug amusing to watch is driving the mum nuts she is making lots of meowy noises and pacing around alot is this normal?

Sorry in answering this one a bit late,but yes it is normal,the kitts want to explore and are confident in doing so and mum is being a mum and telling them "no,ya don't wanna go their or do that,your too little"They have other ideas as kids do

Yes it's one of the joys of kittens. The other fun part is when they start their "homing devices" ie. they walk around miaowing all the time, presumably a survival mechanism so that Mum always knows exactly where they are. As I recall that lasts a couple of weeks and it's quite amusing while it lasts - at least it is until they start doing it when you're trying to sleep in the same room!

My girl is fostering a litter of 11 week olds at the moment (her own are almost 14 weeks and have left her now). She STILL follows them around calling them all the time. I've never seen anything like it!

thanks guys just an update since then she moved them to under my daughters bed i think as my lounge is quiet big she didnt like them going all over is much happier now they are a bit more contained although they are running riot in there lol
