Re: weaning

It's a great feeling, isn't it? My mum thought I was mad when I phoned her at 8 in the morning to tell her that one of the babies had done his first poo!

Re: weaning

So do I, TB, but my friends just don't get why I get excited over the fact that they'll now start to dirty the bedding, the pen, have accidents when you let them out, get covered in it etc. I just tell 'em you can't understand until they're your kittens! They are now convinced I'm mad rather than just having suspicions.

Re: weaning

I'm with the majority. Make mum has as much to eat of good-quality food (preferably kitten food) as she wants, when she wants. if she will eat biscuits that's helpful as you can leave them down all the time. And also make sure the kittens have free access to food, and they will wean themselves.

This worked fine for my friend that bred BSH, and it worked fine for me with the cats I have fostered.

It can be messy though - the kittens seem to start by swimming in the dry food and then (sort of) cleaning themselves up!

With the last queen I fostered i wasn't actually sure that all the kittens were starting to wean until I put down some raw mince and saw the one I wasn't sure about go straight up and tuck in.

The other messy thing was when a kitten used the biscuits as a litter tray!
