hyperactive mum to be!!

Luna is due 13th Jan and I have read every book going and got all advice I can(before I even got her!!) and have had cats for 20+ years - but even so I can't believe how panicky I'm beginning to feel and now have a few "non text book" questions - so here goes - if you can help

She is still charging around like a looney - is this normal?

Tends to look big in a morning and at night but smaller during rest of the day!!! is this normal?

She has started eating most of her food during the night!! is this normal?

sleeping in weird random places like at the front door!! - is this normal?

As you can tell I'm not a paranoid parent!! (much)

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

Good luck with the forthcoming kittens
Charging around like a loony isn't that unusual - what breed is she?
Looking different at different times isn't all that odd - you probably just get used to seeing her all day so she doesn't seem as big
Eating - not sure about that, mine tend to eat more at night time anyway
Sleeping in random places, she could be looking for a comfortable nest box or as she is sleeping by the door she may be hot
I think it's quite normal to start panicking no matter how long you've had cats

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

what breed is she? what are you expecting?

Its totally normal to let them do whatever they want, try and stop her from jumping from very high places if you can, top of high cat trees etc.

keep her in one room, the birthing room from a week to go, when was she mated? how long to go?

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

Hey you sound just like i was with my 1st litter!
It all sounds normal to me, Kira was still very active right till the last 24 hours.
I also thought the shape changed, but thought it was in my head!
As for food and sleeping pattens, i agree she may be looking for a nesting spot, may just be what is comfy for her.

I would restrict her to the birth room from about 2-3 days before the kitts due.

Best of luck, you will be fine i am sure.

(Its easier the next time, much more relaxed all round).

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

It will defo be easier next time round - as there won't be one!!!

Luna is a white exotic

She has now decided that behind the sofa is her place - so I've put a bed there too - thats 4x beds!! - ho hum

Today she has been face rubbing on the carpet - still can't believe how nervous I now feel - she's slowed down abit today activity wise but is eating for England - not sure if I should be restricting her but gut instinct is saying - she can have as much as she wants

Thinking might have to take the lid off her litter box - cos it looks like a tight squeeze

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

I'm sure we will be having news of kittens from you soon Make sure the nests you have set up are warm and draught free and keep an eye on her as much as possible.
Do let her eat as much as she wants and when she delivers the kittens she will probably eat the placentas too - very nourishing

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

Well Luna is still fat - silly me got all panicky and counted the days wrong - vet kindly pointed out earlier in week that she would be on day 63 on 20th Jan not the 13th- and so, thats today!! - well at least I know everything is ok because I was getting very worried - at least she now seems due - has short energy bursts then rests and has defo been more affectionate last few days - down side is she is still ignoring her boxes and has, it seems, chosen my bed!! - hmm have to solve this one quick - although I do have plenty of spare duvets so not too bothered if the worst happens

hopefully be posting kitten info soon - oh vet thinks she might go full stretch as he thinks there are only 2 kittens she's quite small - so plenty of room for them to keep growing - got to re-visit monday if no babies just to check everything ok -keep your fingers crossed for a trouble free delivery this weekend

if there are only 2 kits you must keep a real good eye on her, as obviously british/persians/exotics do have rather large heads! so 2 kittens = 2 big kittens!!

If you can keep her in 1 room from now or just in the evening, call it the birthing room lol! for example the lounge or your bedroom, I sleep with mine downstairs for example, seperate her from other cats, and dont let her behind sofas, what type of birthing box do you have? & whats in it? is it her first litter? What are you expecting?!

what days did she mate? day 63today still might have a good 7days left,

Re: hyperactive mum to be!!

All 4 boxes are banana type boxes - with puppy pads, shredded news paper and baby bedding sheets inside (brand new and washed in non bio with scent less wash powder - as advised by vet!! - if he'd said wash them whilst standing on my head I'd have done it LOL)

It is her first litter - and will be her and my last - really couldn't go thru this again more stressful and worrying (not to mention costly) than I ever imagined don't know how frequent breeders cope!!

I'm expecting kittens!! hopefully white/cream exotics (dad cream, mum white)

Thanks for advice re-size - vet never mentioned that and it hadn't crossed my mind - will worry a bit more now LOL -thank God my vets are very close and have a 24hr staffed on site hospital

Yes vet also thinks she may go to day 72 - but wants me to visit on Monday to keep a close eye on her - I'll do whatever it takes - so any advice please keep it coming
