Re: Semi bald Siamese Kitten

Yea that's what I thought it would be. I found it kind of hard to believe that hairlessness was a dominant gene otherwise we had have considerably more hairless cats.

As to percentages of hairless/non-hairless it depends on the genetic make-up of the parents, but if we go into that this conversation is going to get really science nerd, complicated and VERY off-topic. Haha.

I'm absolutely certain Elsie's Mum doesn't have any intention of selling the kittens as pure bred Siamese:

Adopted a cat that turned out to be pregnant! Help!

She just did a nice thing and took in a cat that needed a home and ended up with more than she bargained for.

No, no intention at all as selling them as siamese, whoever has them will know their full story. I am based in leeds. If I can't find him the perfect home with someone I trust 100% I will be keeping him.

The odd thing about him is that he isn't hairless, he has a thin covering of fur all over like it is just his undercoat. I found a breed on the internet he is quite like and its called a Peterbald. The Peterbald just has the undercoat but the other thing is that they often dont produce milk or not enough and Iggy (their mum) didn't have enough milk and was nearly all dried up when the kittens were about 4 weeks.

Interesting. I wonder if any of the hairless (or less hairy ie rex) breed clubs might know more about the genetics if it interests you (it does me!). Is there a Peterbald club?
