Kitten Weaning

Do you ever remove mum from the kittens to stop them feeding from her once they are eating solids? If so when?
Or do you leave her with them right up till they go to their new homes?

Re: Kitten Weaning

I would leave them together. Just make sure there is enough food for everyone.

Re: Kitten Weaning

I never separate my kittens from their mums, they stay together (if they want to) until the kittens leave for new homes. Often by then the mums just aren't interested any more!

Re: Kitten Weaning

I don't separate unless it's needed, one of my girls milk can goes off when she goes into heat and some kittens even when weaned still try and feed off mum so i have to be careful as it poisons kittens bloody nightmare x
nice thing is i knew from the start this could happen with her as it had happened with her mother before x

so no, not unless necessary do i bother xx

Re: Kitten Weaning

Well we have and do sometimes separate mum from babies once they're weaned as sometimes mum comes into call and the acidity in her makes them vomit, also sometimes at this point mum needs a break as because of their age and size etc mum is drained and welcomes the break, though sometimes they stay together until babies have left home, also sometimes mum is too attentive and cautious and can hold babies back imoI do think as always it depends on the situation at the timeThey do not lose out on a mums comfort(which is usually what they get from her at the time of seperation)as they get it from their aunty's and each other and of course us

LOL, yes it seems Auntie Storm here took over mummy role so Eva could have a break - she's regularly washing them even though theyre old enough to do it themselves xx

Yes,makes me laugh when they talk to them or are trying to get them to go to bed..always fascinates me,think a lot of humans could learn many valuable parenting skills from our cats
