Pen will work fine till the're about 5 weeks, then they'll be climbing out, unfortunately its ery likely they won't be litter trained

Maybe you could invest in a wire or wooden rabbit run (with top!) for the next period of their development, they are not too expensive ( around £40 for a nice big one) and you might well be able to sell it locally when the kittens have gone.

Re: my 2 litters are mixing together is this ok

Very few mums actually 'train' thier kittens. Mostly instinct to cover thier toilet kicks in and they then pick soft areas to 'go' in so they can do this.

However when they are really small the urge to go is really rapid, just like with small kids, if an appropriate tray isn't within a few feet (or inches in some cases) they will go 'where ever' is the nearest place, e.g. quilts, sofa, behind the telly etc The more times they go in an 'inaappropriate' place they less likely they'll go where you want them too. Some kittens will use their beds, or a dry food bowl as litter trays, they can get confused!

A pen which confines them to a smaller area, with only one or two attractive litter areas will really help them get the hang of it. The significant time for this to happen is from about 5 weeks up to 8 weeks.

Sure let them out when you're watching them ( I certainly do) so you can pop them in a tray if they start to squat, but if the're free roaming in the flat from 4-5 weeks old you may have a problem, hope you won't though.

they will be free roaming v.soon wether you want them to be or not as they'll be able to climb out of your pen in a week or so.

Most breeders either use some sort of pen (with top) for this stage or have a dedicated 'kitten room' which is set up to be easy clean with specialist flooring to help keep thing hygenic during the messy weaning/litter training stage. Mum's will clean the kittens to stimulate elimination usually till they start eating solids, after that..............

Don't worry about things too much.

I start them off in an enclosed pen but at 3-4 weeks they are able to escape.

At around 6 weeks i ditch the pen and just let them be.

I have a few shallow trays around, and i put a little used litter in them to encourage their use.

Mine take to it very quickly. If there's an accident i clean it up and cover the area with a tray.

Don't give them access to couches, beds etc, accidents do happen.

Kittens learn really quickly how to use the tray, i'm sure you will find it a breeze!!

Rosies babies are almost 6 weeks old and litter trained. I placed them in the litter when they started eating solid food, 10 minutes later popped them in there and now they are going to the litters themselves.

They are so adorable now and are now walking down the stairs on their own but unable to get back up

Hello! I don't have any experience in breeding, but OH and I got William when he was 5 weeks and 5 days (to be precise) - he was fully litter trained and has never had one accident since the day he got here. I wouldn't worry too much about it
