Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

The RSPCA won't do anything at all, re-homing kittens this young is not against any law. All they are interested in is the animals having basic shelter, food and water. The standard is actually rather low.

Fuuny that when new homes are so very vetted, pot & kettle? I think so

It's a shame but there's nothing you can do...

Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

you could call them and be like "well I was interested in taking a kitten but I don't think I will bother because you're letting them go at 6 weeks old. . .when they shouldn't leave until 8 weeks. . . they might not be the best looked after kittens"

or just very politely say "are you aware they're not supposed to leave home until they're 8 weeks old?" because they might just not have realised
their cat might have come home pregnant, they might have had the kittens and someone might have just told them they can go at 6 weeks

Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

8 weeks is still too young.

12 weeks for optimum chance of being a balanced adult

The sad truth is that people want them 'out the door' as quickly as possible!

A litter of kittens is expensive to feed and raise, they can cause damage to items in the home and sleep can be difficult when they are 'running wild' all night.

People let their cats get pregnant thinking 'aww i can't wait for all the bundles of fur, it'll be so cute and great' then once they reach 4 weeks old they realise what they've let themselves in for!! Then the 'get rid' as soon as they can not giving a single thought for what's right by the kittens they brought into the world.

Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

my poor baby was only 8 weeks when I got her but she had no mummy the rescue gave them away at 8 weeks. . .which thinking back now they shouldn't have because even though they had no mummy they still had each other and they would have benefited from the extra 4 weeks with each other

fortunately my cat is still lovely but it could easily have affected her badly!

to be honeest Chrissy they prob wouldn't listen even if you did call them.... If this is what you are going to do make sure your phone number is hidden as some people may take offence, even if they are in the wrong

Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

I think it has something to do with the cost of vaccinations too. At 9 weeks, a vet will administer the first of the two part vaccination course. The second half comes at 12 weeks. Many vets charge a biggish fee for this and some people who have kittens that need new homes do not wish to bear the burden of this cost.

This is why pedigree breeders and many owners of household pets often let their kittens go at 13 weeks. The last week is to ensure there is no bad reaction to the vaccination.

Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

RSPCA won't do a thing, well not in my experience anyway. They happily denied me a rescue cat/kitten because I wanted an indoor cat, yet when I informed them of the woman who I bought William from they done absolutely
nothing (she was rehoming kittens at 4 weeks old, selling them riddled with fleas and worms, and was breeding everything from rabbits to puppies in her very small home). I wouldn't waste my time again It's a real shame...

Re: Shocked at a kitten add i just saw

the trouble is a lot of people beleive that 6-8 weeks is the right age to re-home kittens, so its probable these people dont know. like others have said, the RSPCA wont do sod all, ive rang them before and theyre never interested. there was a badly injured crow in my garden once, and all they said was 'box it and take it to a vet' alot of the time i think adverts are bulls**t. so if you want anything done youre gonna have to ring them yourself but i doubt the owners will listen, then again they might. so its probably worth a try.
