Question Should I buy a pedigree from a first litter?

I'm new to the forum. HELLO.

I've found a pedigree kitten thats local to me that I wanna buy. The only reservation I have is it's the Queens first litter. She's a grand champion with great bloodlines and the Stud although not a champion has full pedigree great bloodlines also.

Is there anything I should be wary of? Or should I look for a kitten with a 3plus generation pedigree?

IMHO i dont think it should matter that its the queens first litter, what i think is of more importance is that the kittens are strong , healthy, well socialised kittens, that leave their mom at the correct age of about 14 weeks of age, and are fully vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and insured........good luck with your choice...........Chris

Everything else being equal and if you're happy with the kitten and breeder, there's absolutely no reason not to buy a kitten from a queen's first litter. The breeder will (or should!) provide the kittens' new owners with a four, five or six (usually five) generation pedigree which will comprise the kitten(s) as the last generation, the parents as the generation before, grandparents... and so on.

Re: Should I buy a pedigree from a first litter?

I'm giggling a little at this question, sorry

What difference would it make if it's the first litter? That would mean every breeder would have to keep every kitten from every queen's 1st litter lol!

Being a grand champion and having champion bloodlines isn't everything. This is only important if you're planning on showing, and even then there are no guarantees. Champion bloodlines don't necessarily mean 100% healthy kittens.

You get have a beauty of a kitten produced from 2 non champion parents, just depends how much the breeder shows, or doesn't show.

Ask the breeder if they have had the parents health tested and if they have proof of the results, that's so much more important than champion status.

4 or 5 generation pedigree is standard and what you'd expect, as are full vaccinations, worming record, Registration slip (pink if GCCF), and receipts of your payments.

Good luck, hope you find a lovely kitten

Re: Should I buy a pedigree from a first litter?

I think you have misunderstood what three generations pedigree means :s It doesnt mean a record of the past three litters, it means you have the parents records, grand parents, great grandparents etc.
alisondalziel and havoc like this.
