Silent Callers Etc..

Socks called since she was 4 months old, quite often.

Flora is 11 months and hasn't called at all. Her sister has had 2 calls.

Is she just late to develop, or could she be a silent caller?

I have no experience of silent callers, could someone explain what i would be looking out for?

Re: Silent Callers Etc..

Wow, 4 months was really young for a BSH

One or two of my own girls have been silent callers but there's still been some tell tale signs; really the only thing absent was the vocalisation. Both were still extra friendly and off their food somewhat. Actually, having said the *only* difference was lack of noise, thinking back neither of these girls crept round on their tummies, bottom in the air, etc, of their own accord. But both did paddle, bottom up, if you tickled their rear ends. I guess a small number of queens who will show absolutely no sign of being in call when they actually are but I've never owned such a girl.

A few of mine haven't had a first call until they are 13 - 15 months old. But those had a first birthday in the depths of winter and didn't call until the following spring.

Re: Silent Callers Etc..

Thanks, some useful info there

I'm guessing she hasn't called at all yet as she hasn't shown any symptoms whatsoever.

I'm not worried about it, just wondered.

Funny to think Socks was mated at the age Flora is now and Flora seems so immature mentally compared to how Socks was.

I suppose they are all different and have different stages of development. I still see Flo as a kitten, although she is quite a lot bigger than Socks, but Socks has been much more adult like for months!!

Re: Silent Callers Etc..

It's frustrating waiting for them to come into call sometimes isn't it, especially when others have called from a ridiculously young age and you end up worrying about them calling themselves into the ground for months on end. A happy medium, all the time, would be nice eh?

Re: Silent Callers Etc..

Our friends girl, who was a silent caller, sprayed when on call. Having said that our Willow who was very vocal had a go at that just before we got her spayed

Re: Silent Callers Etc..

Would love to know more about silent callers. If my girl was a silent caller then she does go through episodes where she is very affectionate, she tends to be persistent with things [she has an obsession with chewing cables at these times] and also will lift her bum if you stroke her back or legs but at no other time. No paddling at all and no noise or spraying.
