Slow developers

Anyone have slow developers before?

Mine's 16 months old and had one large call in early March and a teeny on in late June. Not a peep since or between.

I'm in no rush but worrying slightly that may be difficult to breed from if she is so rarely calling. There has been mention that her lines are slow to develop and her sister called twice in quick succession and managed to mate but didn't call for the first time until she was 13 months.

Re: Slow developers

Our girl had her first call at 14 months, a lovely christmas present lol. She was mated around feb time after three calls. Went to term delivering one stillborn kitten then nothing till the next christmas. She was mated again came home fooled us into thinking she was pregnant and started calling like a banshee after around seven weeks. We took the decision to have her spayed and they discovered both ovaries were cystic. Hopefully all will be ok with your girl Our friends girl had her first litter at nearly two. She was a silent caller.

Re: Slow developers

I wish, I've had two girls call at 5 months now and they are still calling a week on, a week off now at 7/8 months, I can't wait for the colder weather.

Saying that, I had one girl who first called at 14 months and only weakly, but I have had no problems breeding from her, I do have my own stud boy though so she is familiar with him or I think the journey to stud may have knocked her off call.

Good luck with your girl, what breed is she?

Re: Slow developers

She's Birman.

Hoping it isn't anything as sinister as cystic ovaries.

Part of me thinks it is because she still acts a bit like a kitten in character.

Re: Slow developers

I've been thinking this lately too.

Socks called at 4 months, but Flora is almost 11 months and not a peep from her. Her sister has had 2 calls so far.

I'm hoping it's nothing but who knows!

In fact, gonna start a thread kinda related...

Re: Slow developers

I wouldn't rule her out as being a silent caller. Only thing that struck me is that she HAS definitely called twice and been very loud and very affectionate with lots of paddling. In between, she has gone through stages where it is like she is on the 'cusp' of calling.

Re: Slow developers

Autumn is on us. Is it fair to assume that she won't until spring now? Think she may have a go at getting that title for now if that's the case....

Hard to assess her as she is with me every day but judges said she was babyish at shows when she was 10 months old and is now a mature/large girl at 17 months. Could this be a factor in rarely calling?
