Claws

hello, bit of a funny question... should I clip the little babies claws as they are ever so longand don't want to let them scratch each other/mum as they really scrabble for a teat when hungry (which is all the time lol) even though there are only 2 of them it is a real bustle!

Re: Claws

My reply to this is yes.

I clip kittens claws every week, they grow very quickly.

4 reasons for this:

* It prevents mum being hurt by them.

* It minimises damage between kittens in play and feeding.

* It minimises damage to you! Kitten claws can cause painful scratches rather like papercuts, ouch!

* It gets them used to having this done at a young age, great teaching for when they're older.

I use human baby nail clippers or tiny scissors and just remove the tip.

Re: Claws

I agree deffo clip their claws!! It is easy to do and gets them used to it At this age I use human nail clippers as they are smaller that animal claw clippers and I find the cut is cleaner. Just make sure you dont cut the quick! If however this does happen and you find you have a bleeding claw just dab a tiny bit od flour on the end of the claw it helps seal the quick and clot the bleeding

Re: Claws

thanks guys although I do this routinely on puppies, I just didn't have a clue about kittens... although they are only 2 days old the claws are pretty long already do you actually clip your adult cats aswell I always thought that they had to have sharp claws. Not that Missies are over long, but would be nice to not get swiped at from a sharp claw in play

Re: Claws

I dont like sharpe claws and as my cats are mainly indoor cats I am always clipping my cats claws!! I also always clip the foster kittens claws as for some reason I am always getting covered in deep scrams... I am COVERED in scars!! If I didnt do my adult cats claws I would be in an even worse state.

Plus you know how cats come and pad on your lap as a sign of affection I love that but if they dig their claws in me I cant stand it so to keep affection between the both of us I keep claws short!
