Re: Litter Training

My girls always use a tray as far away as possible from the kittens. I've never had any problems with kittens getting litter trained - they teach themselves, but I do usually put a bit of used litter in their tray so they start to get the idea.

Mum is used to a hooded litter, but thats too big for babies. They have a small one - do you think mum will use it or will she look for her other hooded litter?
Mum has access to get in and out the pen without kittens escaping and Im worried she will poop in the room rather than the litter - or am I worrying for nothing?

Re: Litter Training

Well i have got home and the litter has been used and thrown everywhere LOL

Mum has definately been in there which is good - but i cant tell if kittens have been. There were a few small lumps but i cant be sure if i havent been there.
So i have taken her hooded one away as she seems happy to use the kittens one. Plus they will see her using it.
Anyway gave them a feed tonight and put them each in the litter in turn with a scratching motion. They didnt do anything, but hopefully now they know its there and it has odour, then they will go (i cleaned out the poo before anyone thinks i have left it dirty LOL)

Re: Litter Training

With my kittens I have always popped them in a nice clean litter tray and rubbed their front paws in it (the same action as if they were about to do their toilet or cover it up). It has always worked.
