anyone else have this problem with thier himmys?

when my Queen Holly gave birth (first time mom) she did not know what was going on. She had pushed the first kitten out (other then his foot and after birth) and was walking around cleaning the box. she did not even see the kitten. we had to sit her down and pick him up and SHOW her, before she even licked him clean. 10 mins later she pushed his foot after birth and kitten 2 and his after birth out. in 30 mins she had all 3 kittens. she did not bite off the cords.. just cleaned them. we had to take the kittens out and cut and tie the cords and give the kittens back to her.

After all that was done she fell in love and STILL will not let them be picked up.. even the tiny mew and she runs to them screaming to make sure they are ok. they were born July 2.

just tonight she started to flip out screaming and trying to pull the kittens out of the box. she wanted them out and with her.. they are still way to young to wonder around so i made an area for her and them.. and shes happy and stopped screaming. im still a bit scared for them being out and doing their own thing.. i have other pets that are just so much bigger. (the other pets know not to bug them mind you)

but did anyone have to help there himmys? i did read that sometimes himmys dont do it by themself. is this true with most of them? or did i just get a cat who had no idea!!

she is a GREAT mom now. she loves them kittens so much.

I think it is possibly first time mum syndrome - my Birman was a little the same with her first litter - I did the cords but she did want to know just didn't have a clue etc but after that she fell into it. Second litter no problem.

Re: anyone else have this problem with thier himmys?

My girl did the same on her first litter, she had 6 and she didnt do any cord breaking or cleaning sacks off etc. Once I had done the dirty jobs she turned into a great mum.

This time around things went much easier, kittens out and cleaned up quicker.

Kitties now 5 weeks old and started creating havoc

Get her neutered. There's more than enough cats on the planet.

so if she's getting neutered after this litter, why diod you say in an earlier post that you "hope she does better her next litter"?

Re: anyone else have this problem with thier himmys?

no my last post said after shes had her 3 litters she will be fixed.. not after this one.. and her daughter will also have 3 litters if she fits the standard and health and all that stuff.

i dont need anyone telling my to fix my cats and so on.. the himmy here is a cat EVERYONE wants and they are hard to get. you dont see them in shelters.

my other cat who is just an orange tabby is fixed and has been forever. my new puppy will also be fixed. you are in the breeding forums.. chances are most of us here are breeding our cat. so to come just randomly post fix your cat.. is kinda lame.. since thats what THIS forum is about. if you have a problem with breeding im sorry.. but im not going to stop just cuz ONE person thinks i should.. if there was something wrong with the cat i would not do it.. i half ass do know what im doing.. but thanks for your concern i guess.
