Ahh Kitten with poorly eye!

Just come home from work and one of the kitten has a really gunky eye and it is nearly closed, was fine earlier today! one of the others looks a little bit gunky as well. Vets appointment for tomorrow morning as they don't have anything left for tonight but terrified it could be something serious, is this a common problem?

Re: Ahh Kitten with poorly eye!

how old are they? its normally called 'sticky eye' and can be common when tear ducts are starting to work (so im told lol!)

if you get some cool boiled water and just wipe the gunk away, make sure that you dont touch the other kittens as it can go round the group, its worse when they are long hair as the hair make their eyes stick, had it in my first litter, *touch wood* never had it since!

you can also by some eye wash for kittens/cats from the vets or online to wipe it with
alan g a and we love bsh's like this.

Re: Ahh Kitten with poorly eye!

they are 15 days old, 1 is worse but its only in 1 eye, its eye is partly closed but its feeding and squeaking and wandering around happily, and another has just a little bit of gunk on the hair around its eye. so its not a big problem or needing the vet? other than eye drops i can't think what a vet can do but i just panicked!

Re: Ahh Kitten with poorly eye!

It's extremely common so don't worry too much - the vet will give you eye drops I am sure.

couple of our kits had this a tea bag soak in boiled water left to cool right down squeezed out wipe with this tea has a natural antiseptic DONT use cooton wool or any other tissue ect the fibres can scratch the eye/lens and cause damage it worked for us and may be keep the vet appointment just to make sure it isnt in fected

Good advice. I had a similar problem with a kitten that was 2 weeks old. The vet practically insisted that I brought him in. Good job I did as he did need treatment. Thankfully all went well and the little chap is fine now. He is 9 years old.
